Well I've just enabled the settings on the bios to down the clock and volts when idle and obviously the temps have dropped, I've also retightened the hs
32 32 34 36 which is much better
But
What are the disadvantages of using this function ?

Basicly none, my mobo has a called DVID it just down cloaks the CPU idle volts even further to 1.008v, then when underload they go up.
