Your current Fish tank Setups!

You cannot undo thousands/millions of years of evolution to soft water with a one hour drip acclimitisation, regardless of whether the fish is wild caught or captive bred!

If you want soft water fish, make sure your tap water is soft too, alternatively buy a Reverse Osmosis unit to produce soft water and enjoy deciding what to do with all the waste water full of the minerals.

EDITED: I deleted my reply after reflection, I know remember why I stop coming into this thread, after 20 years of doing it and being successful some one always wants to tell you your wrong even after the fact you done it

Neons require a much more mature tank, and a single discus won't be happy on its own.

What is your pH, GH and temps? Also, nitrates?

Make sure you test for ammonia and nitrite regularly. What fish store did you go to?

Oh, and you certainly aren't right. ;)

The discus was kept on his own in the shop because he didn't get long with the other discus. For the first few days he seemed a bit shy but he seems a lot happier now and much more active.

I test for Ammonia and Nitrate every 2 days using salifert liquid tests. The ammonia has been 0 all along, Nitrate around 5.

pH is 7.5-8. Temps 27.

BigBruiserAl: If I was to stock again I would probably choose differently, but they seem to get along for the most part apart from the orange/blue gurami.

Which conflicts do you see?

Robfosters: fair enough.

Added a few Crypts to my low tech tank, looks a bit of a mess at the moment but I'm going to see how they settle in.

20 neon tetra
4 rainbow gurami (2 m 2 f) the men are real swines, I have introduced floating moss at either end of the 180l tank and it seems to have calmed them a little.
One awesome blue discus (my fave)
One sliver shark plec
5 cherry shrimp
6 barbs
2 awesome mini orange crayfish (my faves)
one spotted suckerfish

I actually think your trolling now...if your not both you and your little fish shop pal are absolute muppets.

constructive!

Nope not trolling, they are all pretty happy in there together.

As a self admitted noob, I'm doing quite good. Only lost 2 fish, its been stocked over a month. Thats a lot better than some of the losses I've read about in this thread so bah humbug to you!

My plants are booming, I have to do gardening on them every week.

Good levels, no missing fish, all good.

I also have:

Both require a lot more space than a 180l, especially active Bala Sharks (not plecs!), which should exceed 30cm SL and need the company of a group of their own kind... Get at least a 9x3x3 FEET tank ordered!

Thanks for the heads up! Damn thats a bit ******, the guy advised me against some fish, and insisted I only stocked a few fish at a time etc so I trusted his opinion on the stocking.

Fair enough if your a 'noob' - but you have literally done no research whatsoever and that's not cool. The internet is a wonderful thing and there are many websites out there that inform buyers of what is appropriate given tank size, ideal stocking and water conditions.

your stock list is horrendous, your plants will degenerate, algae will bloom and fish will grow, get overly stressed and die.
You can keep on saying 'bah humbug' as much as you want....it doesn't excuse how naive your being here.

My plants are absolutely booming, its practically a forest and I have very little algae.

** Just like your fish tank, let's keep the posting clean **

Got my new inline diffuser finally installed after figuring out what I was going to do with the piping, Just ended up splicing the tube and getting some new adaptors. I may end up changing my output to a spray bar...Not sure yet.

I added some cheap extra lighting by repositioning the room lights above the tank :p

Using four fairly cheap ebay 15w GU10 LED spotlights. Beam angle is narrower than I was expecting and the output isn't exactly mind boggling but they're useful for spotlighting some of the wood and plants, and mean I can raise the Kessil slightly so the smaller riparians are all lit now.

The hairgrass has been suffering a bit lately - the 40 odd Guianacara juveniles have started digging it up pretty regularly which probably doesn't help. Going to upgrade the filtration this weekend (been meaning to do that for a while) so should roughly triple the flow and going to have a go with some gluteraldehyde. Never used it before so figured it was worth a play given I got some cheap off Hoggie :)

Just did a big move of the right rock.... never doing that alone again lol.

That panic moment when you realise both arms are as far as they can go down and you can't reach, okay big deep breath and then dunk to get it to where you need it to be lol.

If this is not allowed please Delete my post

I have an Eheim scubaline 180 tank that I have no room for and is sitting at my parents

I'm getting no interest selling it in various places so its going to a charity shop. If anyone wants a free tank with fish and plants let me know

Not selling anything so thought it would be ok, all you have to do is come pick it up from Uttoxeter, If not the fish are going back to the shop and its going to the charity shop :(

In my experience second hand fish tanks are notoriously hard to sell, I've been trying to shift a Roma 200 for dirt cheap for months.

Hope something works out for you, I'm surprised a charity shop will take it?
