Your current Fish tank Setups!

Your right sorry other way round for nitrite and nitrate.

Ive got a little group of 10 ember tetras and 2 snails, quite a few cherry reds (no idea how many now) and 5-6 remainig crystal blacks.

Potato phone pic, hopefully you get an idea of my setup

Is that a fluval spec?

If it is, just pondering why you have an external filter on it.

It is a fluval spec. I had quite a few reasons I removed all the filter gubbins and the black plastic devider because my shrimp kept crossing thru the into the filter section and never being found again. If they sat ontop of the foam they were fine but underneath the foam Was a void where they were un retrievable

Also to give a little more space in the tank and the external holds an extra gallon or so of water so helps with the eco system of such a small tank and the filter it comes with was increadibly good at biological filtering but practically usess at mechanical filtering.

I have once cycling at the min, I agree with you observations on its mechanical filtration, I plan on adding a small layer of filter floss on top of the sponge once its up and running. I'm also thinking about blocking the small hole in the black plastic backing for the above reason.

Blocking the hole works as long as you dont let the water level fall below the skimmer slits.

You will still find the entire back section is a nasty pool of brown water all the time tho and the sump aera under the foam becomes a cess pit. If your planning on keeping fish it will be fine but if your keeping shrimp they will find a way into there somehow.

If you do decide to remove it its an increadibly easy mod to do and worth every penny.

Yes, yes it does :p

My tanks finally settled, now to keep on top of it. Got myself some more Corys (i think) and some Neons in there now, time to let it settle again.

My larger tank cracked so have to use this until i get enough money together for a larger one. The water level has been topped up today after cleaning. I have 2 x fluval U3 filters.

Would go with a month tops mate, any longer I would get them rehomed. Cant be helped if your other tank broke but if you care for the fish im sure your do the right thing :)

So, my tank is coming along, plants are growing well, one or two are dying slightly but hopefully can bring them back.

Also added two Corys and six Neons for the time being, didn't want to overstock it too soon/add too many in one go.

So, going well, onwards and upwards. Intend on doing weekly partial water changes and will naturally keep an eye on everything ten fold now theres more stuff in there.

Guys need advice, had a tank leak last week now on a loaner tank will the tank be ok on my cabinet, depth is the same but length is 9cm longer than the old tank so will have a 4.5cm overhang. If I fill it to about same water level so the weight is the same will it be fine or am I missing something? Cabinet is the one you get with a fluval 180. http://www.petsolutions.com/images/Products/15515300b.jpg tank is fluval 180 and loaner tank is a older fluval with hexagon angled front.
Thanks

The part of the tank that is not supported will be a pressure point and crack there, so many variables to take into account to call will crack. would I do it? nope.

I would assume so as its not technically hanging off...naturally it couldn't be soft bendy wood. Still wouldn't be ideal.

I'd probably either try relocate, or just buy a cheap table from IKEA or a charity shop or something for the time being?
