Your current Fish tank Setups!

Anyone here know anything about plecos? Trying to identify this one!

Hypostomus cochliodon? Looks like a juvenile maybe as the fins are still speckled.

Had one once but by accident not purpose. It was the boxing type not the harpoon. I thought it was a pistol shrimp at first but the inscenet 'clicking' at lights out coupled with missing snails and broken shells meant I had to strip the tank down to find the offending rock he was hiding in. No amount of fresh water, carbonated water etc would get him out. I eventually got him out by putting the rock in a bucket of very hot water.

I occasionally see peacock mantis in the LFS although it is rare. I'm sure a decent LFS could get you one if you REALLY wanted one but I wouldn't put them in a community tank.
certainly wouldn't go in a community tank. Just find them pretty interesting and people tend to describe them as very hardy. a lot of work went into my old tropical setup and would rather avoid anything to crazy and worrisome for when I have to go away.

I've seen some peacock shrimp cohabiting with fish in some setups but suppose they are always at risk so nothing to exotic should go with it.

I can see why some people would view them as pests but the peacocks are just stunning imo What has me most concerned is just general maintenance, once it's in the tank I'm really not going to want to put my hand in there. Not to mention they have a fairly long life from what I've read (although very non specific on actual length)
Just looking for any1 with general advise on keeping them tbh. What did you do with the one you managed to evict? I assume it was one of the smaller species?

Keep up with water changes, stop nutrient build up, keep lighting levels in order, old tubes cause lots of problems.

Thanks for the advice. I never knew old tunes could cause issues. I have no idea how old they are, could easily be 10 years old now though I'd say. I will look at getting a pair of new ones.

I change my t5 tubes every 6-8 months, keeps the correct spectrum of light for the plants:) try it and keep up the water changes weekly or every fortnight, the algae will go away but not over night.

Been a few years since having fish, but just had to get back into it.

So I bought a second hand Juwel 180 Vision. I have a couple of Aquamanta EFX200 external filters, one running with a UV steriliser and one running an external heater. I've upgraded to T5 lights as well. The old T8's needed replacing anyway, but as I was intending a planted tank, T5's were the way to go.

Substrate is aquarium plant soil (1-2" deep) with sand over the top

For plant food I'm using a TNC complete feed and their TNC liquid carbon, dosed accordingly.

Ah right ok! I'm going to have to manually remove as much as I can, get some new tubes and do the water changes and hope for the best.

Will a certain type of live plant hepl with the nutrients?

How did you convert to T5?

Looks good!
I have cleared down my tank and got rid of the last fish I don't want. Rehomed a final convict last week. She was a real problem, very aggressive, even for a convict and killed a fire eel that I recently added.
Now all I have are a trio of (very old!) brilliant rasbora and a recently new polpyterus senegalus. I would like to shift on the rasbora, but they are no trouble, and have been in the tank over 8 years so cannot bring myself to evict them!
Should be free to restock now with Congo tetra and a another eel, then maybe something more mainstream like some angels perhaps.
Really enjoy planning new stocks! It's been a number of years since i did such a complete restock.

Currently have the following

7 neon tetras
2 sailfin mollies
2 congo tetras
1 red tail shark
1 balloon molly
1 plec

Tank is a jewel rio 130L, with a mix of live & fake plants.
In the process of slowly changing to full live plants. Had it setup for about 12 months, nothing special but I'm happy with it.

Had a 180L tank a few years ago, but a house move forced it's sale. 5 years later I was in a position to get a new one & got this one as a birthday present from the wife.

Amano shrimps are really good cleanup for algae on plants, get 3-4 feed them they do well, get a power head for good flow throughout the day.

Plants i use these, always very good shop.

Sorry must dash i got work :(

What power output power head would you recommend for a Juwel Vision 180?
I have the same tank and was thinking of adding a small power head to mine to complement my spray bar -my last attempt at Eleocharis Parvula carpet failed and a lot of that I think was down to poor circulation (I run T5 lights & a CO2 kit btw and will do EI dosing once my new setup is cycled and planted).

What I don't want to do is end up with too much circulation & ruin my lovely soil placement

I did think about removing some of the sponge from my JBL Cristalprofi e1501 to slightly increase the filter's flow rate.

I use this on my juwel trigon 190

Corner tanks are a pain to circulate, i turn it off at night on a timer to give the fish a rest to sleep:), i have a Juwel rio 120 i want to reuse again and close the corner tank down, just trying to convince the mrs i need to rob another alcove for it:D.

I use two of these on my marine tank.

Lost two stock in past month one to swim bladder and other unknown

As for circ pump debate i use an Eheim Aquaball as pictured run it 24/7 along with my external and flow is great :) Few flow spots lower down for the fish who want to stay in calm water also with way its setup

Recently planted it all up and am dosing Liquid carbon daily also :) So far so good 10 months in

Looks like a nice, healthy set up. Love the effect of the air stones at the back; I'll be doing the same soon when I restart. :)

Thankyou :) Moss needs a trim and re-tying onto other end of wood but iv gotten used to its length thats taken a hell of a long time to grow from a 50p sized piece of moss
