Your current Fish tank Setups!

All these marine tanks make me wonder why I am still running a tropical tank... So much colour and nice fish!

Its a good question, and three years ago I took the plunge with a small (100L) marine tank. It was a joy to set up and run, maintenance soon settled down to 10 mins every couple of days along with an hour making salt and doing a partial water change one day a week.

What made me go back to tropicals was when I was away. I will frequently go away for two weeks during the summer, and tried all sorts of ways of keeping the tank going when I was away. Friends/relatives were fine dropping in every 3 days or so for a while, but soon favors started to dry up. Frozen food is hard to automatically add when you are away, and marine fish are very sensitive to water parameter changes too.

Ultimately I couldnt go away on holiday and relax as I was worried about the tank. So I went back to tropical and can happily leave the little blighters for 2 weeks with just my trusty Eheim food dispenser feeding them twice a day....

your mileage may vary!

This just reminds me of when I was younger, I had a tropical fish tank, they all died one day randomly. So i put the tank outside to clean it before I bought some new fish. Then Bam my dog knocked it off the table. No more fish for me. I really want to get more one day though, they are always so mesmerizing

Thanks guys. There's some great setups on here both tropical and marine. Here's some shots:

I can leave my tropical tank for 2-3 weeks with nothing required.
That's the winner for me, marine is great, but until I can afford to go big enough and have a pro come in every week for maintenance on marine, I will just wait :(

I'm a total beginner here. Bought a basic (very) tank with a pump and a few cloud minnows. I'm a bit worried about the pump as sometimes its blasting air out at a good rate whilst sometimes practically nothing comes out. Is this meant to happen or is the pump on its way out already? I've only had it a few weeks.

I've left mine for 2 weeks twice this year. If it is setup correctly it needs minimum maintenance. I do however use an aquarium controller which is a massive help.

No, this doesn't sound right. What kind of pump is it, an external air pump or all-in-one that sits inside the water?

It's an all in one that sits in the water. I played about with it last night and it seems that the air hose was obstructed in some way. The pump is now working quite happily, long may it continue!
