Thanks, was concerned that she had bought me a fish that would turn into a giant pleco.

What temperature to you maintain in your tank with this new fish?

If it is a Beaufortia kweichowensis, these are not tropical fish and have specialist requirements (15-20C for most of the year, excellent oxygen levels and a strong current). They are a more extreme case than Rubbernose Plecs (Chaetostoma spp.).

Until you get a positive ID from someone with better knowledge, so you can then fine tune your tank setup, it would be far safer to maintain 20-22C. Some species will start to shut down if the temp stays below 20C, but at the same time, warmer water can hold less oxygen.

There are quite a few "suckermouth" loaches of this shape, they are outside my specialist interest area, although I have had a male Indian Red Tail Squirrel Loach (a "hilstream loach") for ~5.5 years.

I'ts been a while again. I was getting bored of the way the old lights looked so i made some new ones.

The tank needs a tear down and re-plant really but I might be moving soon so it can wait.

Aside from being it much cheaper to make your own, is it very difficult to do?

I guess it depends on what kind of person you are and what level of finish you hope to achieve.

If you're used to working with your hands and with different materials then I'd say its very easy.

On the other hand if you've never done any kind of DIY project before it might be a daunting undertaking with potentially serious consequences "i.e flooding your house"

Go in with an open mind, research every last little detail and have a plan of what to do.
Don't believe all of the horror stories you read on the internet and you can save your self hundreds of pounds.

Got a load of Java moss after some tank mainantance. If anyone wants any, just cover the postage (2nd class stamp probably) and it's yours.
Not selling this stuff but if unsuitable here, feel free to remove mods.
Rather this than bin it all.

So finally decided to get back into keeping tropical fish - had thought about marine, but with 5 kids a dog and running my own business, the time just isnt there. Tropical I can manage.

Tank I have went with is the Interpet 160 litre Aquaverse. Ive used Interpet aqauriums in the past and always found them to be excellent.

At the moment its day 3 so still very much in the early part of the cycle and purely artificial ornaments in the tank, will be adding real plants shortly.

Intention will to have a community tank and mainly have small species. The first fish I will introduce are Zebra Danios as I have always found them to be hardy and a good starter fish for a new tank.

Going to be tracking my water levels and I am using a combination of the Tetra test strips and the Tetra app. However I will need to source an appropriate ammonia test as this isnt covered on the 6 in 1 strips.

Anyone have Aquamanta filters. I have two efx200's and they don't seem to catch the 'fines'
Even packed out one basket with more wool, but makes no difference.
Sure it's all just passing up the sides of the baskets.

Anyone else have this issue with this filter?
