Your current Fish tank Setups!

I wouldn't recommend putting a Siamese Fighter and a Red Tailed Shark in the same tank. Red Tailed Sharks can get very territorial with age and are notorious fin nippers especially in smaller tanks.

Bad advice from the shop there...

i asked that when my wife picked it as my dad had 2 red tails at one point in the same tank and although they attacked each other hes never had any problems with then nipping at any other fish.

the shop assured me they would be fine as they will mature together, i hope so as i have always liked redtails

Went to a fish shop with a friend the other day and saw a lovely black and white lionfish.

Now i'm starting a marine aquarium!

Just got a 4 foot tank off ebay for £35, so i'm cleaning it up today/tomorrow before getting sand, filter and a bit of rock. should hopefully have water in it by next week.

Never had my own tank before either.

My damn lights have gone. Unsure if it's the bulbs (two of them) or the fuse, or something else. So now I've got a very ghastly desk lamp on top shining through the glass. Not very convenient.

I really need to contact Fluval about my filter as well as it's still under warranty and has become increasingly loud despite cleaning it. But then I obviously need the filter, so how do I send it away?!

The best bit of advise I have been given regarding a marine setup is to take your time. I had everything in the tank for 6 weeks before adding any fish, even then it was only 2. A lot of people rush into it and end up with all sorts of problems.

You will need a test kit to test for nitrate and so on, get this long before you plan to introduce fish. You do know that the rock is roughly £15 per Kilo? You cant just throw any old stuff into a marine setup. Lots of people sell 2nd hand rock for around £5 a kilo, thats the best way to go imo.

Do a bit of reading before you setup m8 as its a really steep learning curve, but well worth it. I recommend the reef face forum to start with. Join that and start a thread explaining what you intend on doing, they will steer you in the right direction.

One more thing, listen not to greedy shop owners, they will try to flog you the most expensive crap that you can easily source 2nd hand or online.

Do lots of reading up, and budget everything, costs can spiral so easily.... setups can be done on the cheap, but it usually takes experience to understand how best to do it.... skimping on things doesnt really work in marine aquariums, so i found out to my cost...

read up for a month + first.

a 4 foot tank can hold a lot of live rock, which is expensive, my 60cm nano takes 10kg which is 100quid of rock. Make sure you know what to do when (or if) it spirals out of control and you get a tank wipe, 'cus its an expensive mistake if you dont

I've got two marine tanks, a 250 litre one and a pico marine fluval edge (think its around 25 litres). Currently battling a a bit of an algae bloom in the larger tank as I introduced too much new sand too quickly. Recently got a sea hare which is getting to work eating it. Between both tanks got a few fish and will try and post some pics this weekend.
Contents
3x shrimps (cleaner, scarlet cleaner + another)
brown tang
regal tang
4 clowns (2 black and white)
fox face
fire fish
bengaii cardinal

few corals but need more once algae is under control.

Sorry about the pics, the colours need sorting and as I said I'm battling some algae at the moment.

This is my RSM 250

This is my fluval edge on my computer desk, I need to do a bit of wiring and add some more lighting before I get any corals in it.

RIP - I've had 3 of these, one jumped out when I left the lid open last summer as it was getting a tad warm, one just died (all tests fine and everything else in tank fine) and the Mk3 jumped into the cable tray within the tank (anywhere else it would be fine). Its an awesome fish and reminds me of the internet gopher as it watches you when you walk near the tank (eyes move independently)

I have also had a bit of bad luck lately :(

Had a happy anemone in my tank for a few weeks now and was given another one free as it had split in a mates tank. It wandered about my tank for a week or so, just would not settle. I woke up one morning to my tank having bits of it floating all over it, the bugger had got itself into the powerhead and was blended :(

Since this happened the tank has not been the same, the other anemone has lost all its colour and looks terrible, however everything else looks good.

Im praying the original anemone recovers from it all.

I assume you have pulled all the bits of the blended anenome out of the tank as much as possible? Obviously anything that pollutes the water once it dies will affect your levels. Apologies if that seems obvious but some people seem to miss these things. I hope your other anenome recovers. :)

Those pictures above make me miss my marine tank. That Regal Tang is beautiful, they are so vivid.

Yup :D

Also did a 10 gallon water change as well as adding another 4 hermit crabs to hoover up the bits I probably missed. Ripping as all was going well until the ******* decided he had enough and committed suicide.

can anyone recommend me the best way to light my tropical tank so I can grow plants. I have a very deep tank (2ft) an struggle to get enough light to the bottom.

After selling my old tank (seen here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=15711350&postcount=3), I bought myself a Fluval Edge.

Very small tank.. 23 Litres!

I currently have it stocked with 1 Golden Apple Snail, 3 Harlequin Rasbora, and 1 Siamese Fighter (male).

They all appear to live in harmony, but I've noticed that my fighter appears to be suffering from the dreaded fin rot :(. I went to my LFS yesterday, and after having a chat with the guy about it - I bought some high protien food (apparently for Discus, but this guy recommended it), and some fin rot medication (Iterpet - Anti Fungus and Finrot).

I did a 30% water change yesterday, and followed the instructions for the fin rot medication, but it appears to have gotten worse over night.

Any ideas / recommendations on how I can save him?
