Your current Fish tank Setups!

Nothing super sensitive but planned temp is 26.0 mainly for a betta which I'll be adding soon. Also have a lot of Fissidens moss which prefers 25-26 degrees. Other inhabitants are 3 endlers, amano shrimp and horned nerite snails which dont mind 26c.

You'll find it hard to keep an exact temp and you don't really need to. Even though the heater is set to 26 the water could be anything from about 23c.

Cory much prefer fine sand. Go for a natural colour too, not black. I just used play sand in my tank which is way cheaper than aquarium branded stuff (needs a LOT of washing first though).

Sand is also a lot easier to keep clean as crap won't sink in to it. Plants will grow in it too, just use liquid plant food to get it going.

ta this is what i was looking at below apparently is natural but yes that play sand is very cheap, any issues or downsides in using sand ?

All of those fish will be fine within the normal tropical range, and it’s normal for that to fluctuate +\-1C of the heater preset (25-27).

It’s fine to use play sand but there are a couple of negatives that you need to be aware of. It’s really fine so you should only really use a thin layer, any thick layers will need to be stirred up regularly because play sand will compact down and start trapping toxic gas from the anaerobic conditions.

Plants will grow in it but they prefer to anchor their roots in something coarser, you can’t stir the sand near a plant because you’ll disturb the roots and you will likely need root tabs.

I just personally dont like it because it’s not very natural and tends to be one solid colour throughout. I prefer something a bit more natural and coarser grain from unipack or Hugo komishi.

Edit:
That black sand looks fine, it’s coarse enough not to compact but is more than fine enough for corys and has a more natural look from using a few colours mixed in.

I never had issues with trapped gasses using play sand. If you have something which likes to dig they will turn it over constantly anyway. Just keep it under about 3" deep and it will stay very loose.

I started with a black substrate, but it can make the tank look too dark once you start adding plants and driftwood etc.

If its not one thing with this fluval edge its another! Went away for a few days days and have come home to a slow leak.

I can't work out exactly where its coming from but I've lost roughly 5mm after doing a water change yesterday and finding another puddle on the counter top.

I know I want a different tank but I can't afford it for another month or so.

Dry glass and apply some vaseline on the seams, When it does leak u will find were it blew out of as there should be a hole in the layer of vaseline

.....Okay... screw it.

I've been ruined by the internet and unimpressed by bettas stocked locally. Biting the bullet and buying one of Franks bettas from thailand.

I want to get rid of the algae on my plants this weekend, what ratio of bleach do I need to soak them in and for how long?

Having a red slime outbreak myself at the moment :( its always been in my sump/fuge but found a bit on the rocks tonight

Might have to break out the red slime killer if it gets too bad

Yes, just make sure its just bleach and not some scented stuff or contains extra stuff limescale remover.

You can use the cheaper thin bleach, you need a bit more but that's fine.
