Your current Fish tank Setups!

Here's a recent pic of my jungle:

I tried EasyCarbo and ended up with a tank of gasping fish.
I had a good read online before using it, seems its best to start with a low dose then slowly work your way to where you want to be. Can't say I've noticed any problems with my fish, but it cleared my bba a treat :) even if it did melt one of my plants (cant remember the name, looked like bamboo).

nst68, give the bottle a good bang on a hard surface and then shake and try again.

I've turned off my airpump/stone because of the noise.

To make sure I'm aerating the water I've moved the internal filter up so it's disturbing the surface of the water.
Do I need it to be making bubbles and breaking the surface tension?

Has anyone else here experienced algae eaters eating protein based pellets?
I've started feeding nutrafin max bottom feeder pellets as they sink quicker, thus allowing my cory's to get a look in.

But I've noticed that my clown plec (who never leaves cover) will make a dash for them as will one or two of the recently added otto's (the original 2 show no interest). I'm finding it a little surprising as they show no interest in frozen foods or my previous pellets, yet they have taken quite a shine to these.

Yup they like them a lot, just a warning that veggie diet plecs can suffer from bloating if they take in a lot of high protein food. Offer them some courgette, sweet potato or a pea crushed out of its skin as a better alternative. The clown plec also needs to have bogwood in its diet too so make sure you have some of that as well.

Their well catered for (better diet than me :o) they get blanched gem lettuce, courgette twice a week and algae tabs every few days. Just never known them to go after protein based pellet.

As for bog wood, he lives in it :p

Any suggestions of an external filter guys? I think the trickle top filter is a little inadequate. All pond solutions was suggested by my boss, but wondering if there are better?

I would go for a Fluval, good value, quiet running and reliable.

I have an APS which is great value but is a little noisy compared to a Fluval.

Eheim are good but not worth the extra £££'s imo and also I had one fail on me and flooded my living room which put me off :(

Ha!
I'm the other way round. Had Eheims for donkey's years and will always stick with them. Whilst they've been running I've gone through two Fluval and two Tetratec externals (various leaks and breakdowns.)
Had a Rena XP3 which I thought was quite solid, simple construction and did a good job however.
Eheims just feel more solid and better made to me (not sure about the most recent electronic ones however.) Only issue I've had is wear and tear on filters as they get old needing new a impeller or a seal (running for 12+ years.)
I do like the Fluval U series internals though.... they can't leak :D

Neither for me, always JBL. I find them easier to work on and more reasonably priced than Eheim, and unless you're looking at something like an FX5, Fluval offerings are laughable in comparison.

Rena's seem to have a good rep but never used them, APS likewise seem to be a well though of lower range brand.

Very nice indeed, love that you've kept the proportions fairly shallow, will be a really nice eyepiece!

Well my Trigon days will soon be over - I've checked that my current stock will all fit into my Rio 180 so I'm going to close down the Trigon over Christmas and move all stock and plants into the Rio to create a pretty dense jungle. I want my lounge space back, and the Trigon takes markedly more work than the Rio due to the shape, so it's getting the chop.

any one made there own lights useing cree LED's ? thinking of makeing my own

I have made a small unit using 12 Cree XT-E cool white, for my nano tank.

Basically its the same as the one by Korakot in this thread http://ukaps.org/forum/threads/diy-led-lighting-help.27152/

I have not used fans on mine as the space in my hood is a bit limited but it doesn't appear to get hot at all.

Will probably add fans to it when I upgrade the tank and possibly add a few more leds.
