I first logged onto the internet in september 1997. Kept me awake for 2 days straight. :p

I used Netscape browser, telnet and some random phone numbers for connection. Never had a clue what I was doing, but I do remember the £300 phone bill for first month.

What are your first memories of connecting to the internet??

9600 baud, then upgraded to 14.4k and joined compuserve

around 1993 IIRC

switched to AOL, paid through the nose for that

will never forget searching for domain names to register and coming across boots.com and boots.co.uk which were available (I didn't as everyone at the time was saying the internet would never take off)

must have been 98/99 when I got online for the first time. ICQ springs to mind and AOL chat rooms (hilarious) and IRC. Was a long time IRC user.

Freeserve, 56k unlimited (off peak) back in the late 90's maybe.

Playing CS 1.1 / 1.2 , using lots of IRC and being told to come offline so my folks could make / receive a call

Lots of that noise, mum picking up the phone, having to disconnect every 59 minutes before we had to pay for it, a pain in the arse. Then Counterstrike, though, which was brilliant...maybe some boobs too.

Remember dial up on my PC but we got Broadband pretty early on.

Remember Internet through my ntl box as it was uncensored ;) and I used the Internet through my dreamcast as I remember running a phone cable up the stairs every time I wanted to use it.

Off the top of my head i really cant remember which order those 3 experiences went in.

As for home, well I used to buy computer magazines which were 40% content 60% adverts. Among the adverts were AOL and Compuserve 100 hour CDs.

Then NTL came out with 120Kbit cable and the rest is history. Been with them ever since
