Your idea how to power this Google Nest Hub

Acquired a Google Nest hub and looking to make it look cleaner than just placing it on a desk or table.

I want to primarily use it to control thermostat on the 1st floor as my main one is downstairs and also to view my CCTV on the outside of my house.

I want put it into my wall if possible and use one of these brackets.

As you can see its quite recessed into the wall but if I end up going down this route, what suggestions do you have to power it? There is an adapter to use a POE but getting access to it or to hide it is another matter. I think using a wall plug is best but suggestions how to make it look as clean?

Oooof that's a proper bodge job. I wouldn't even class that as recessed as it sticks out of the wall.

You'd be much better off mounting a tablet in the wall and controlling your thermostat, or viewing cameras from that.

I am exploring that option as we speak, looking to see which tablet offer the 'Ambient' mode as I think this might be easier to work with. I am intrigued how you would power it either POE or connected through to mains?

Not sure how they've powered it though - they might have mentioned further down.

PoE is probably the neater option though, although would require routing cables around, but you could at least terminate it at a PoE switch which would be hidden away. I'm not sure the same could be said for running a USB cable to a mains socket, as it would need to come out of the wall somewhere.

What's the battery life like on a tablet nowadays?

I can imagine a lot of folk will favour the periodic recharge versus going too nuts on what is essentially a "throw away" device. Unless you have a wall behind it, not sure there is an easy option other than channelling the wall and sitting one of these behind it.

PoE or native connector you have the same problem of getting a cable there.

The tablet seems like a more viable option as my main concern is that I dont want to cut into the plasterboard with a massive hole. I rather go down the tablet hole as it gives a bit more flexibility and not just suited to one device. I'll Post on the home assist thread and ask about that persons power routes.
