Sitting here at my desk and watching the mass exodus from the office at midday I've been thinking. Since I've worked outside the UK I've noticed that whereas I and most other people with British (or Indian) backgrounds have their lunch at around 1pm consisting usually of a sandwich or something from home that they eat at their desks, the Czechs and French almost always go out to cafes or restaurants have a relatively large meal at midday on the dot.

From what I understand it's because lunch is the main meal of the day and they have a smaller dinner later. I sometimes join them however I find that if I eat a large meal at lunch then I feel sleepy and surely this can't be good for the economy if the workforce is almost dozing off in the afternoon.

What time is lunch time for you and do you usually have a light lunch or a larger meal?

Just idle musings really. On that note I'm off out to an Italian restaurant omnom nom nom :)

Anytime between 11am-1pm. Usually it now only consists of a sandwich and a bag of chrisps. Also it can be as early as 11am because I get hungry by that that time :p

I can take it whenever but normally 1 - 2, something light for exactly the reasons you outlined.

I find if go over the boozer not much gets done that afternoon :/

Good for the individual though! Better still go home for a few hours, have a good feed and a snooze.

Tip - eat a meal heavy on protein rather than carbs, you'll feel less sleepy in the afternoon.

Anytime between 12 and 3, some sort of microwaveable ready meal, not too heavy but more than a sandwich.

I can take lunch when ever I want, but I ususually eat around 11:30 - 12ish, as I get up and start the day at 6:15am, have breakfast around 6:45, so by 11am im usually starving.

My dinner time is 12.30 - 1.00 so don't really have time to go out for something to eat.

Usually bring somehting from home, mostly leftovers.

I have gotten into a terrible habit recently of eating my dinner at 10.20 when i have my break, i then just have a snack at dinner and have another big meal at teatime.

Maybe its the czech beer that makes them sleepy...?

I usually have an early lunch, at about 11 my stomach starts to rumble a lot so Im hungry again by 2.

I go for a sarnie/panini with chips or crisps and a drink at 12 on the dot as thats when everyone else takes it, i would rather go at 1 but im not fussy, if i eat to much then yes i get sleepy, i much prefer to have a big dinner.

I track and kill some sort of terrifyingly huge game, butcher it where it falls with my 600 year old katana and then cook it with garlic and onions on a spit in my front room. Usually with some Pringles.

Typically have lunch around 12:30-13:00 when at work, sandwich+crisps+fruit+yoghurt or something like that. Down the chippy on a Friday.

Restaurant meals aren't really on the agenda due to time constraints and cafe, well I might as well just be sat at my desk reading a book or getting on with some work.

At home I often end up eating later because I can't be bothered making anything.

Any time between 12 and 3 usually, but I don't really take a strict lunch. I'll have beans on toast or something like that then go back to work, then I might pop out to the shops later on if I feel the need.

From working in France, Germany, Spain, Italy I can confirm most of them leave the office for an hour and enjoy a relaxing lunch. This might also have something to do with the offices being smaller, as this generally occurs in the smaller offices too.

We're mugs for sitting at our desks and working through our lunches, we're not paid for that hour.

Anytime from 11:30-1pm, and I can eat anything from a sandwich to a full blown hot meal!

Then I usually go back to my room for 30minutes or so and play some FIFA....then walk back to work :D

Really, some time around one. Lunchbox is liable to be cracked open from any time I arrive at my desk though :D Since I'm at the uni, we go to the refectory or a pub quite often, although typically stick to baguettes, etc.
