So it has been done in the press etc but I thought we could each do our own OcUK team of the year. Pick your team, justify each player. Simple.

Reina

Chimbonda Carragher Terry G.Neville

Ronaldo Lampard Gerrard Gamst-Pedersen

Rooney Henry

Reina- First season in the prem and it is no coincidence that Liverpool equaled their clean sheets record with this lad in goal. Dominates the box, great shot stopper and slapped Arjen Robben. The last is reason enough to go in any team of the year. Joking aside, he is a great goalkeeper and only young.

Chimbonda- Another debutante who has scored goals, created goals and defended solidly. No wonder some of the top clubs are chasing his signature after his ill-timed transfer request.

Carragher- Just does not put a foot wrong in defence. Only way for him to improve his game is to start scoring goals like my next pick. Totally consistant week in week out.

Terry- Best defender in the league and future England captain. I would give him the captaincy ahead of the World cup to take the pressure off Beckham. Another great season for Chelsea.

Gary Neville- As a Liverpool supporter it pains me to pick him, but yet again he has had a solid season. Dependable to the end and not shy of getting forward.

Ronaldo- A tricky character who can turn a game on its head. Had a lot to deal with this year with the loss of his father and criminal allegations yet overcame them both to have another good season. You would always rather he was in your side

Lampard- Some say he flatters to decieve and Makalele makes him the player he is. I say he is one of the best midfielders in the world. Only surpassed by my next pick

Gerrard- This boy could play anywhere on the park and be outstanding. Top scorer for Liverpool this year and has played right wing, centre mid, 2nd striker and even at right back. The complete player and a deserved player of the year

Gamst-Pedersen- Another unknown who has proved trouble to the best defences. Great striker of the ball with bags of pace. A winger in the old mold.

Rooney- Need I say a word?

Henry- Ditto.

Discuss :)

GK - Lehmann

RB - Pascal Chimbonda
CB - Rio Ferdinand
CB - John Terry
LB - William Gallas

RW - Cristiano Ronaldo
CM - Steven Gerrard
CM - Frank Lampard
LW - Joe Cole

CF - Rooney
CF - Henry

Manager - Pardew

GK:

RB: Eboue - Great season, I like his playing in this position and his excellent, decisive tackles.
CB: Campbell - In a word, Solid. :D
CB: Terry - No need to justify.
LB: Clichy - When he has played, he's played very very well (Eg: v. villareal.)

RMF: Ljunberg(sp?) - I like his playing.. always looking to get a player into the game and works well at quick passing. Also amazing covering; sometimes in the LB position making decisive tackles.
CMF: Joe Cole - When he plays well he's amazing to watch. Very confusing, great shooting, great dribbling and great passes.
AMF: Gerrard - Favourite player, honest, hard working and just ****** brilliant. Great at covering, great at shooting from the half way line :p amazing passing and vision and always seems to be able to pull something out of the bag. Best English footballer imo.
LMF: Richardson - Seen some amazing stuff by him this season, reckon he'll only keep getting better.

CF: Henry - Precision, flare and ridiculous technique.
SS: Shaun Wright-Phillips - Would complement Henry I think with his inability to fall over despite nearly tripping over. I have no idea how he doesn't fall over :P Still manages to carry on. He doesn't take the obvious routes which often confuse the defence which I am a fan of. Also.. the speed!

EDIT: Forgot GK.. let me get back to you.

I take it you're an Arsenal fan by including Ljundberg, Campbell and Clichy georges, because I can't see how on earth you'd include them otherwise.

Sol has been anything other than solid this season (see: West Ham at home), and Freddie has been really off form too. Reyes, Pires and Hleb have all been better than him this season. Clichy has played about five games in the entire season, so hell, Cole deserves more of a shout in that position than Gael does. It's not that you're biased, it's that those three make no sense, since they've all had better players than them at the club alone this season (Reyes, Toure and Flamini respectively).

Are you taking the mickey? I'm a Man Utd fan, and bar todays game he's (Richardson) been abysmal all season. Campbell, Eboue and Clichy have done nothing special, certainly not Campbell or Clichy, other players have been FAR better. And Shaun Wright-Phillips in your team of the season? He hasn't played!!

He's barely played at all this year though =/

GK Lehman - Would have put Cech, but he wasn't up to last years standard. Lehman has been brilliant this season and much better than other seasons. He's calmed down a bit which is good aswell.

LB Heinze and Cole have played well in the games they played, and Clichy has done well. These are the best 3, but none stand out
CB Terry - A cut above any other defender this season, needs no explanation at all
CB King - He has been one of the main talismen in Spurs' defense this year. Solid as a rock, and deserves a permenant England place
RB Chimbonda - Helped Wigan finish where they have, plenty of assists and goals, and a suprising amount for a defender

MR Ronaldo - There haven't been many outstanding performances from right midfield, but plenty of players have been consistent there, with Ronaldo being the most consistant. He can run, cross, tackle and score. What more do you want
MC Gerrard - Do I need to explain
MC Lampard - See above
ML J. Cole - Finally England has a decent left midfielder. He's been brilliant all year, and the goal against us last week was just superb

FC Henry - Class, just pure class
FC Rooney - Class, pure class, just not as much as Henry

Henry Keane

Rooney

N'Zogbia Sissoko Lampard Gerrard

Carragher Vidic Terry

Given

Henry, Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard, Carragher, Terry - don't need to say too much about this lot. Rooney isn't the great striker he will be yet! but he is one of the most exciting players to watch.

Robbie Keane - he has had to fight off tough competition at Spurs to become 1st choice there and done it well, he poaches goals but is also really skillful and works well in the team and setting up chances for others. I think he is a great striker.

N'Zogbia - quite keen on this guy, played well in a dire team which shows he has a good attitude, very creative, strong, chips in with a few goals.

Sissoko - He isn't the best player yet but I would be scared to play against this guy, so big, strong, athletic and those long legs just manage to reach the ball so many times when you think it is past him - keeps Hamann out the team who is a class player as well.

Vidic - I like this guy, gets in last-ditch tackles, lets opponents know when they've been tackled by him cos he crunches them! Doesn't mess about. Reminds me of a good old-fashioned centre-half, he could teach Ferdinand a thing or two, good buy for Man Utd.

Given - pulls off amazing saves, must be the goalkeeper worth most points to any team considering the defence in front of him.

I've skewed mine slightly in favour of players that would play well together, rather than the outright best XI, if you get me. Makes it more interesting I think, trying to pick the best team, rather than the best eight attacking players and some central defenders and a goalie.

GK: Lehmann/Given - I'm biased, but Mad Jens has been fantastic for us this season, saving our faces on many occasions, despite our often poor defence. Given, of course, has been as fantastic as he seems to be every season.

LB: pass for now

CB: Terry - Can't be argued with really. Plays for Chelsea. Chelsea haven't conceded many goals this season. The two are not unrelated.

CB: Toure - Absolute rock for Arsenal this season, and would complement Terry perfectly (nippy sweeper type to Terry's solid stopper).

RB: err, tbc

LM: Joe Cole - Slightly cheating I guess, since he plays most of his Chelsea games at right mid (I think?), but he can play here, and he's been good this season, so he gets it.

DM: Makawakalelelele - Need a defensive mid to balance out the team, and you can't really beat him at the moment. Makes everyone else look good by doing what matters.

AM: Lampard - Not been his best season, but you can't complain at 16 goals in a season from midfield.

RM: Gerrard - Is a quality player, and has adapted to playing right mid suprisingly well (especially considering he never did much at left mid of the dreaded diamond for England).

FC: Henry - Well dur now.

FC: van Nistelrooy - Yes, RVN and not Rooney. Would complement Henry perfectly, and has a decent goal tally this season, despite being frozen out towards the end of the season (still more games than Henry) and not being on good form (second highest goals in the prem).

I was tempted to shove Rooney in Lampard's position, since it's not actually that far off where he plays, but I think Fat Frank would work better in his natural position. Still deciding on my wing backs though.

Charles Nzogbia has been pretty damn good this season in a team that has underperformed. He has been a catalyst for Newcastle from being 15th in the Premiership in feb to the Intertoto at the end of the season.

pretty surprised Carragher and terry dont walk into every team; these two have consistently been the BEST defenders for the last few seasons now; they have sooo much passion and should be Englands starting pair. Sorry Rio you'll have to sit on the bench and have those jaffa cakes son!

we need to keep nzogbia at all costs.

we cant sell the players like that.... if we are going to go any further forward we have to think of the future obviously... so selling our star young players is insane.

in a few years time nzogbia can be amazing. arsenal are worrying me, with arsene wenger sniffing about it will be hard for charles to resist.

im hoping he will stay though. also im not keen on selling milner either, good squad player and one for the future.

......................Given
Chimbonda...Toure...Terry....Gallas
........Gerrard....Parker...Lampard
.........Rooney...Henry...Ronaldo

Using the Chelsea formation of course.

Not overly happy with that team, I've jumped on the Chimbonda bandwagon, Parker isn't a cert and Ronaldo has blown hot and cold by all accounts (I've been quite impressed though).

Ironically there is no place in my team for Jens Lehmann, who has arguably been Arsenal's best player this season.

--------------Cech----------------
--G.Nev.--Terry--Vidic---Heinze----
-Gerrard-Makalele-Fabregas-Pedersen-
----------------Rooney------------
---------Henry---------------------

Cech - The most consistent keeper in the Premiership and kept Chelsea in some matches they had no right to get points from.
G. Nev - Simply the fact that he's still the best overlapping crosser of the ball playing at right back.
Terry - I absolutely despise him, but he's an amazingly good defender - shows the focus and determination I wish Rio posessed
Vidic - Has really impressed me with the games he's played this season, tough as nails and happy to kick seven shades of **** out of players if it stops a goal.
Heinze - Tough choice as nobody else at LB has really impressed me this season so it goes to the player I know plays at 100% effort and heart any game he starts.
Gerrard - Consistent goal threat, great team ethic and insightful passer.
Makalele - Singlehandly can stop most teams on the attack
Fabregas - What I wouldn't give for Man United to have bought this kid, wicked passer of the ball, very fast and has a good shot on him.
Pedersen - How we failed to buy him I will never understand. Wicked from crosses, set pieces and has scored some absolute screamers this season.
Rooney - Exemplifies football. Plays with more heart and determination than 90% of the overpaid nancy boys from the continent, has amazing natural ability and amazing touch/vision.
Henry - Arguably the best finisher ever to have played in the Premiership. He shades Ruud out by just being a phenomenal player, his passing, class, and sheer footballing brain still make my jaw drop.

Xavi Alonso, Eboue, Rossi, Bardsley and Scott Parker have also really impressed me this season.

For managers it'd be Benitez, Paul Jewel and Mark Hughes for me.
