Your Present opening routine?

I hate the free for all. I expect, with Christmas involving my uncle's wife's family, that this year it'll be a free for all. They do not follow the rules

In my house it's always been like this (still live with my parents). We all go downstairs, presents having been put in sacks the night before for my sister and I. My sister and I collect our parent's presents up and bring them into the sitting room, where our sacks are. The sacks are looking tatty after all these years, hah! We then each open one present at a time, beginning with me, as the eldest child. We just open everything one at a time. Normally I'm left sitting there while my sister opens a million and one presents.

When my grandparents and family come over in the evening, we do the same thing, except my grandmother goes first.

Normally my parents put me and my sister's present on one sack, and we pick them out. They have a name on them. They are all my sister's presents really, then I have one 'larger' one (normally an item of clothing). She gets a lot of inexpensive BS, meainly jewellery. Then we give parents their presents, and me and sister exchange presents (this is the first time I see the presents I 'bought', because I don't buy them, I pay for them). Then its
play, play, play, play, lunch, play, play, play, play, dinner, play, play, bed.

This year dad is working night shift XMas eve, so presents are going to be opened on XMas eve around mid day.

XMas day will be
Wake up, assignments, assigments, assignments, assignments, lunch, CS:GO, study, study, study, study, study, dinner, CS:GO, sleep.

The rules, you must have them otherwise it is no fun, and there is no suspense of what the next gift will be

The last 2 years cause i have got peripherals for my PC, i have about 3-4 main presents, my sis has a pile the size of ****ing mount Everest to open

All changed now all my family are adults. Used to get up at like 7am (earlier if my old man had to go to work) and open presents together. Then eat breakfast, Play with our toys until dinner.

We all do our own thing, family will eat christmas dinner but I'm not a fan of roast dinners so I will usually make a quick curry or just have something down my local.

Now my routine is

10:00 - Wake Up
10:15 - Open Presents
10:45 - Walk Dog (Usually have to call in the shops for paracetamol and emergency lucozade to cure hang over)
11:15 - Eat some breakfast
11:30 - Sleep
14:00 - Wake up and get drunk at the pub + eat food
18:00 - Come home & carry on drinking

Eat Sleep Rave Repeat

yeah, you see, my parents generally know what i need, and so get me stuff i actually am thankful for. The rest of the family kind of got the picture after i got 4 jumpers and 4 pairs of socks one year from all of them and so now just give me a card with money. So i just open the card look awkwardly, "thanks very much"

Its difficult to look interested when you are being handed clothes or some crappy shower gel or deodorant (and deodorant is quite an insult tbh "here have some deodorant, i put a lot of thought into it") The thank you bit i actually find quite hilarious as my grandad, well, lets say he isnt the most cheerful man in the world, he will just open his stack of jumpers, shower gel and wine and go "oh, very good" (with a west Belfast accent :D:D) its quite ****ing hilarous

Ha- shower gel sets... Oh god.

My family know not to buy me aftershave because I'm very picky about which ones I wear. They get the message when they see it sat on my shelf unopened all year.

I usually have christmas at my folks house, it goes a little something like this.

1am christmas morning, roll in from the pub with a kebab from a van in the wickes carpark I got on the way home, 7am get woken up by my sister stomping around like a child despite being 24 or 25 or something, not entirely sure.
Get up, curse, stumble about with a hangover that would slay a walrus, open one at a time, breakfast.

Then go up dads parents house for a bit, exchange gifts there, one at a time.

Then grandparents traditionally come over from next door to exchange gifts, except my Nan being in hospital this year it'll just be my grandad.

All open one at a time and give thanks, else there no use exchanging.

Oh yeah, it's completely acceptable to start drinking at 8am as well.

It all begins on Christmas eve in our house hold.

A christmas eve gift box usually from Mrs Claus for being good and for being helpful in the lead up to christmas that comes full with new PJ's for our Daughter and both me and my wife, a movie to watch, and a snowman soup kit (hot choclate, marshmallows and a cup) for each of us.

We then lay out the usual treats for Santa, and some reindeer food on the front lawn and a magic Santa key is left outside so that he can get in as non of our fireplaces are open. Our daughter is then herded up to bed in time for the inlaws to drop off any presents they have for us, Santa usually leaves snowy tracks in the house, regardless of the weather outside haha.

Then christmas morning there is a bedroom stocking for our daughter and usually me and the wife choose a gift for each other from the presents under the tree so that we all have something to open upstairs.

Then the inlaws come round (only live around the corner) and we head downstairs to start on the presents under the tree. This is usually done in turns, each person opening their gifts all at once.

After gifts its on to breakfast and then prep for lunch. My family normally come over in the morning with gifts as well, some stay for lunch others have their own plans so after the main present opening fest of the morning there is often a steady supply throughout the day.

This year the lead up to christmas as been quite an adventure as my wife picked up a couple of elf soft toys and they have been up to all sorts of mischief since the 1st of december. Roller skate racing, baking, wrapping up the TV, sofa cushions and an assortment of teddies, hanging from light shades, writing christmas cars, toilet roll racing, reading, etc
All in all, chirstmas build up this year has been great, roll on christmas day for mega feast and family time :)

Usually at my Parents it's always been stocking presents at 7am (fairly civilised free for all) followed by breakfast.

Everyone other than me goes to a Christmas morning service at the local church and whilst they are gone I sort out the under tree presents into piles for each person. When they get back then drinks are obtained and main present opening starts (again free for all but fairly civilised).

By the time that's over it's getting on for lunchtime ...

Stockings pre Brekkie. A bit of church, lunch then all main presents / family / friends after lunch. Off to friends after lunch this year so that will be cool

This seems like a great way to make some lovely family memories for you all :) Pictures of the naughty elves would be good :D

Depending on whether we go to midnight mass or not, changes how we do things. But generally we do stockings first thing, and then have lunch and open the presents afterwards.

In fact it hasn't really changed since I was a child!

Get up, vomit, talk to parents, vomit, consume a tub of Quality Streets, vomit, go back to bed. Resurface at night and open presents.

This year I'm off the drink so I'll open my presents with the family after lunch.

i dont know where this thing about the teddies being naughty has come from, but there are about 4 or 5 people on my facebook each day, posting pictures of a teddy, sat next to a bit of bog roll thats been pulled off the roll or something...
i dont really understand it, but then again, i hate xmas so its probably something ive missed :D

my xmas day routine, the missus wakes me up when she comes in from work at around 7 am. i play on the computer whilst i cook dinner, she wakes up, we have dinner she opens her presents (i only have one or 2 usually, so i do them with her) she goes to work, i drink and play on the PC again....

yay. xmas? NO.

tbh though, i have got some excitement this year as i have a SS!! which im looking forward to seen what he got me :D

These days it seems to be up to my Nephew and I to dish out presents to everyone, I read the label, hand it to my nephew (now 7) who runs flat out at the recipient and hurls the present at them in excitement.

I just remembered, a mate of mine, his missus is Portuguese.

Apparently in her house they all open their presents christmas eve (what the ****?), and they don't have a roast, they have some kind of fish.

We do that in France.

Normally the big meal is Christmas Eve - then we go for a walk in the mountains (with snow boots) and then go to bed. We have another meal on Christmas day. It's lovely.

We keep away from Turkey, even here in the UK - can't stand it really.

Its just me and the mrs so we usually get up around 9am, go and put the kettle on and have a coffee, feed the cat, make our phone calls to family and friends, have another coffee and then sit and open the presents before getting showered and dressed and heading off to her folks for lunch. Then we come home sit on the sofa and pig out.

Havnt got kids but I wake up at 10 hungover to hell walk to my parents then walk to the pub with dad and brother till 2 then go home have dinner fall asleep wake up about 8 open my lynx set and socks then go back out on the drink quite sad really.

Thing about a turkey is you can get one of the requisite size to feed a full table plus leftovers for boxing day and a couple days after.

It's a difficult meat to cook but if you take a bit of care over it- get a decent one, brine it, wrap it in bacon, plenty of good stuffing. It'll come out beautifully moist and tender.

Do you open gifts on christmas eve or day out of curiousity.
