I thought this could be fun :)

List your top 5 directors and your favorite film of theirs

This should help expose people to unknown names and give them a chance to see some of their best work. Here's mine...

1.Sergio Leone (Once Upon A Time In America)
2.Quentin Tarentino (Pulp Fiction)
3.Sam Mendes (Revolutionary Road)
4.Ridley Scott (American Gangster)
5.David Fincher (Se7en)

Missing out marginally are Frank Darabont, Michael Haneke, Christopher Nolan and Scorsese.

Steven Spielberg - Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws, Saving P. R.
Peter Jackson - LOTR
Martin Scorsese - Goodfellas, Gangs of New York, The Departed, Cape Fear
Ridley Scott - Blade Runner, Gladiator, American Gangster

Same, I was trying to do this and it just basically ended up with me picking my favourite films. Although Spielberg would definitely crop up there but mostly for his earlier work such as Jurassic Park that absolutely blew me away when I was young.

Clint Eastwood - Unforgiven
Martin Scorsese - Raging Bull

Quentin Tarrantino (Pulp Fiction, Inglourious ********)
James Cameron (Terminator 2, Avatar)
Christopher Nolan (The Prestige, The Dark Knight)
Clint Eastward (Gran Torino, Changeling)

They're not in any order, but I can't really think of another director I like enough to add to the list.

There aren't any unknowns there either.

EDIT: My fifth would probably be Guy Ritchie for Lock Stock, Snatch and Sherlock Holmes (obviously ignoring Swept Away and his other films :p).

EDIT again: Scrud Guy Ritchie, the fifth has to be John Hughes.
