Your Top 5 Directors?

Coppola is an interesting choice, particularly taking into account that she's done more work as an actress than a director.

1. Steven Spielberg (Raiders, Close Encounters, E.T., Schindler's List etc).
2. Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven)
3. Martin Scorsese (Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Gangs of NY, The Departed)
4. Quentin Tarantino (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Inglourious ********)
5. James Cameron (The Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss, Terminator 2)

and just outside my top 5 are:

6. Clint Eastwood (Unforgiven, Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, letters from Iwo Jima)
7. Christopher Nolan (Memento, Batman Begins, The Prestige, TDK)
8. Richard Donner (The Omen, Superman, The Goonies, Lethal Weapon)
9. Michael Mann (Last of the Mohicans, Heat, The Insider, Ali, Collateral)

My God!!!!
I totally forgot about Clint Eastwood! How could I?!?
Unforgiven is incredible.

Revised list:

Hitchcock,
Sergio Leone,
Terry Gilliam,
The Cohen Brothers,
Clint Eastwood.

Steven Spielberg & Tom Hanks – Band of Brothers / Saving Private Ryan
James Cameron – Aliens / Terminator 2 / Titanic / Avatar
Ridley Scott - Hostage / Black Hawk Down / Gladiator
Peter Jackson - District 9 / LOTR / The Lovely Bones

Probably forgot someone but here goes, no particular order...

James Cameron (Terminator, Aliens)
Luc Besson (Fifth Element, Leon)
Stephen Spielberg (Saving Pvt. Ryan, Munich)
John McTiernan (Predator, Die Hard)
Danny Boyle (28 Days Later, Sunshine).

Wes Anderson (Royal Tenebaums, Rushmore, Bottlerocket)
The Coen Brothers (Blood Simple, Big Lebowski, Barton Fink)
Micheal Gondry (Eternal Sunshine, Science of Sleep)
Cameron Crowe (Almost Famous, Fast Times at Ridgemont High)
Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused, Slacker)

Special mention to Spielberg (Goonies), Scorsese (After Hours) and Kevin Smith (Clerks)

1. Alfred Hitchcock - Psycho
2. Stanley Kubrick - The Shining
3. Clint Eastwood - Mystic River
4. Francis Ford Coppola - The Godfather Part II
5. Orson Welles - Citizen Kane

Spielberg, Cameron and Ridley Scott deserve much acclaim also.

George Lucas in my opinion is a poor director. A good writer? Definitely.

The best Star Wars movie (Empire) wasn't directed by him and when he did jump back into that position for the prequels..he proved how bad he is.

Indiana has him with Spielberg so I wouldn't retract my view just because of that.
