Your top boxer and why ?

Manny for me, back when he was beating all the legendary Mexicans. Morales, Barrera, Marquez etc was just incredible. Think manny vs morales 1 is my ATG fight. And then went on an incredible run through the divisions, which I doubt will ever be repeated.

I don't think he ever beat Marquez. 3 was a flatout robbery and schooling despite Pacquaio's people ducking the fight for years and waiting for Marquez to get old, 2 most people have JMM winning, 1 is closer and more disputable due to the 3 KDs in round 1 but I had Marquez winning that and most fans are split on that 1. The reason for the KO in the 4th fight was Marquez knew he couldn't get a fair shake with the judges. Which he couldn't with Bob Arum who tends to tell his judges to vote for his boxer

For me it’s roberto Duran . He’s record speaks for itself and the fact he went 12 rounds as a blown up welterweight with arguably the greatest middleweight of all time says everything about the man

Blown up lightweight who's first great win was at featherweight actually. Although he added natural muscle to be a solid welter and wasn't too soft/light at middle either.

Having said that I do think Hagler maybe boxed more conservatively after Duran's recent destruction over world champion Davey Moore. In turn Hearns absolutely levelled Duran in 2 rounds in his next fight and Hagler and Hearns had their legendry 3 round war in their next fight

Apart from a washed up old overweight Larry Holmes’s and a light heavyweight Tyson never really beat anyone good . He’s the most overrated heavyweight in history

Honestly I can't believe you've picked out Tyson from that list and not the bum padded record of the Brit boys

Tyson cleared out the heavyweight division literally taking out every champion and top contender and instilled fear into every boxer on the planet bar Holyfield. Holmes was overweight and past prime, but he still went on to give Holyfield a good fight, beat top talent in Mercer after too. Bruno was Britain and Europe's best. Tucker was a top unbeaten champion who beat Douglas, who would beat Tyson himself. You can call Spinks a light heavyweight, but that's like calling Usyk a cruserweight, he was the top man in the HW division. Many thought he'd beat Tyson and he lasted about 30 seconds. He destroyed Tony Tubbs who went on to lose a controversial decision to future champion Riddick Bowe. Berbick and Smith were belt holders who earned their belts against maybe better boxers. Thomas an ex champ, who probably shouldn't have lost to Berbick. He took Olympic champions Biggs unbeaten run.

Prison and substance abuse saw him not fulfil his potential. You can certainly rank men that beat him like Lennox and Holyfield above him. But Tyson's skills were clearly diminished in his post prison career

Also past his prime he smashed guys like Golota who ended Bowe's career, Bruno, ever a guy like Ettiene had actually beat Brewster who went on to be a champion and he last 30 seconds with Tyson. I stayed up until past 4am for that 30 second fight.

Like I said apart from old Larry Holmes’s and spinks the rest were hardly great hall of fame boxers . He is massively overrated and the heavyweight division was weak when he was fighting and as soon as he come up against any top top fighter he got absolutely destroyed because once his gameplan of trying to overwhelm his opponent with speed and power failed he had very little and was found out time and time again .

He probrably just makes the top 20 heavyweights of all time but that’s being generous and to say he’s the greatest of all time is absolutely hilarious.

For me personally it's Chisora. Purely for the fact he's kept me so entertained for the last 10 years, from his spat with Haye onwards. During such a stale time with the HW division with so many anticipated fights not getting made, he was the gatekeeper who regularly got the name we wanted to see out there. Plus I find him quite funny and likeable. Iirc there's a great tribute to him on the propa boxing channel.

Absolutely love chisora he is an absolute legend regardless of his boxing skill .

That's overrating old time fighters who fought in much worse eras when the sport was less developed. The only eras that are clearly better than the 80s is the 90s and 70s. He's not the greatest of all time but the likes of Jack Johnson, Jeffries, Corbett, Langford, Wills, Dempsey, Tunney, Patterson, Marciano, Walcott, Charles, Willard, Schmelling, Baer would get absolutely mauled by Tyson and most of them probably inside a single round. I'd also pick him over Louis, Frazier and Liston too. Foreman is a toss up either way going by Foreman-Lyle. Ali likely beats him, but stylistically Ali is open to the left hook. For me Cus De Amato designed Tyson's style to pick apart the likes of Ali and Holmes. Prime Holmes v Prime Tyson is hard to call. Wlad could beat him on points or lose by KO, almost a toss up. I think Vitali beats Tyson by decision because of his range, height and workrate. Holyfield I think always beats Tyson. A Bowe fight would be interesting, Bowe is much bigger with great workrate and agility for a man his size. But Bowe never faced a puncher like Tyson and had a leaky defense, arguably no defense at times. Lennox probably beats him 8 out of 10 times, Lennox didn't beat a prime Tyson though.

Out of today's fighters he'd obliterate AJ, Fury I think beats him by decision. Usyk is a toss up, because Tyson is faster than Usyk and much better inside. It would be either Tyson in the first 6 or Usyk by decision. But if Fury can stun Usyk, Tyson can level him.

You complain about Spinks being a LHW but most pre Ali champions were the same size or smaller with the occasional big clumsy oath along the way. Also while Holmes and Spinks are the only Hall of Fame fighters, allot of people had Carl Williams beating Holmes before Spinks did.

I'll add that characterising Tyson as overpowering opponents with speed and power is short sighted. It's somewhat true but he overwhelmed opponents with defence and skill too. Arguably the most skilled heavyweight of all time. In the 80s he had the stamina to outbox opponents over 12 rounds too. It was only post prison that he didn't really have the stamina in the late rounds

He’s overrated and nowhere near top 10 of all time and was absolutely destroyed by the top tier fighters of his day.

Out of curiosity what is your top ten heavyweights of all time .

I'm with @sniperone on this. Tyson is an incredibly exciting fighter to watch and his highlights and the definition of show reel....

But, and it's something that can't be ignored, whenever he came up agaisnt someone as good as himself, he stumbled. He has somehow garnered this incredible mystique where people, 30 years after he was fighting, make him out to be some type of Demi-God.

Holyfield, a career cruiserweight, handled Tyson. To think Usyk wouldn't be able to do the same is bonkers.

Exactly he’s gameplan was always to try and overwhelm his opponent with speed and power and when that failed he had very little and got frustrated and chomped on some flesh

I used to think Tyson was the best until I looked beyond the highlight reels and also looked at the wars other boxers had.

He was obviously ridiculously good but also caught the public imagination and the hype that goes along with it. I guess that hype remains because he didn't have a typical career and spent his peak years inside (did he duck also?).
