Your Top Five Games of this Generation!?

1. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii). Just edged the first. It's a credit to Nintendo that their nth Mario game feels fresher and is crammed full of more new ideas and inventiveness than most brand new ips. Everything about it screams effortless quality.

2. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii). See above.

3. Demon's Souls (PS3). Old skool gaming that reminds us that once gaming didn't hold our hands and that the real satisfaction is in working things out for ourselves. Painfully good!

4. Bayonetta (360). Bayonetta is the best game of its kind - cheekily slapping Ninja Gaiden and God of War before winking as they run out the door. A solid 60 fps, gorgeous visuals and silky animation - every developer should take a leaf out of Platinum's book. Possibly the most demanding and rewarding game of this generation.

5. Rez HD (360). Technically not released this gen, but easily up there with its best. A timeless, trance beat trip that's as much a unique experience as it is a game. If I hadn't already sunk endless hours into Rez over the years this would be vying for the no. 1

Great choices, I would remove the first m galaxy and replace it with red dead redemption

Metal Gear Solid 4
Valkyria Chronicles
Tales of Vesperia
Lost Odyssey
Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2

if I had room for a 6th 7th and 8th (since thats how many noteworthy titles I'd really like to mention) it'd be Halo Reach, Muramasa Demon Blade and Castlevania but that's the top 5 above (not in order) Bah too many games need mentioning just remembered Limbo and Resident evil 5 (good gameplay despite wishing they'd go back to proper horror and zombies). Sad to see so many putting up Uncharted :/ Metal Gear better in plot, design, bosses (oh god are Uncharted's bosses boring) dialoge, mechanics and the lot but whatever uncharted is the recent trend of fanboy favouritism :/

Uncharted 2
Valkyria Chronicles
Demon's Souls
MGSIV
Heavy Rain

Aside from Demon's Souls, it's pretty much the stories that did it for me. Uncharted 2 had imo unsurpassed production values and pacing to back it up, Valkryia was tough as nails but incredibly rewarding when you cracked it and Heavy Rain just felt like an attempt at something new. Demon's Souls is pretty much the pinnacle of hack n slash RPGs.

I agree mostly, except for MGSIV. Replace that with Assassins Creed 2/Brotherhood. Replace Heavy Rain with Mass Effect 2.

I wasn't aware of any 'fanboy' favouritism trend, but I thouroughly enjoyed Uncharted 1 & 2 and will certainly buy the 3rd. I thought the characters were well done, the graphics were really nice - the setting in the first game was amazing in my opinion. Looking back I don't suppose the boss battles were especially exciting but that didn't ruin the game for me at all.

I also have Metal Gear Solid 4 but only played about 30 minutes of it, but plan to complete that at some point also - I only just completed Uncharted.

if people like the game, whats the problem? Its so weird how people react sometimes when they don't share the view of others.

Not sure how most of you can just pick 5, I tried to write a list but picking 5 is proving impossible. Can knock out at least 20 games that were brilliant this generation. 5 by game genre I could maybe do :P
