I've scrapped YouTube's app altogether and only use YouTube vanced. They've gone from the occasional ad to a guaranteed ad on every video and in many cases two ads. On top of this they changed the minimum duration requirement for mid-roll ads from 10 minutes to 8 minutes, so every second video will now be 8:01 in length instead of the usual 10:01 (if you've ever wondered why so many YouTube videos are ten minutes and a few seconds long, this is why).
Then to add even more fuel to the fire, they've automatically added loads of mid-roll ads to videos that the content creators didn't want ads on, and the only way to disable them, or at least move them to a spot where they're not cutting up a sentence or whatever, is to edit each video individually. No bulk disable, every video separately. Louis Ross an covered this fairly well.
I honestly think we're witnessing the beginning of the end for youtube. It was once an epic platform with so many great content creators earning good money off it but sadly many have left and the new generation are all on Twitch or alternatives. This means they've lost a lot of views which means less ad revenue, so they increased the amount of ads to compensate. People got even more fed up and are now blocking the ads as much as possible, so they've increased them even more so many people are just stopping using it.
Note how few actual you tubers are left. Most of the content on there nowadays is from people or companies who make the content anyway, like TV channels, talk shows, documentaries, etc. Not many people like pewdiepie making a living off it anymore and those who do, like Linus, have resorted to selling merch, placing their own sponsors in their vids, etc.
Today was the final straw for me too. I clicked on a 16 second long video and was presented with a 2 second unskippable ad. This seems to be the trend lately, ads ads and more ads rather than tackling the reason for needing those ads in the first place.
The cracks are showing more and more, and I for one m happy to a different app to avoid the ads. I'd rather chuck my favourite youtubers a couple of quid a month than endure the incessant torrent of ads.
