Youtube forced name change

its crazy what they have done but i can kind of understand it if you have a big channel. They have added a channel mangment feature and you can now add mulitple accounts to manage a channel.I used my channel account as my user account and it was seperate from my google+ account which i only activated so i could comment on things. after the last name question i now have two google+ accounts and two youtube accounts both tied to my google account. So now not sure what to use them for. Even though i used a fake real name and always said no to using it as my youtube name, i now have a seperate youtube account that is my fake real name and now have a google+ account for my youtube channel account. They are going to revamp the youtube comments by integrating it compelely with google+.

you wither just click escape when it pops up or when it asks if you want to change name you say no i use other names.

if you changed to google plus you can revert it from your channel.

It's things like that which is making me use the Internet less and less these days.

Google wants you to tie everything together, the pop-ups are getting more annoying, the targeted ads are getting more sophisticated and more and more websites are gathering data on us. Add to this the spam / email adddresses that are getting sold on - even when you specifically ask them not too - and the data gathered via social networks....and you have a mushrooming problem.

What was really annoying last year and this year, is the constant pop-ups asking me if it's ok to accept cookies.

Whatever happened to the WWW the way it was 10 years ago

I dread to think what info / how we will be tracked in 10 years from now.

Gah this tricked me the other night. It was a different box than before.

So now I have 2 channels. My old nickname and my real name. My real name has all my subscriptions but my nickname has all my playlists. I sent them a message asking if they can put it back and 2 merge the two accounts back together.

I get it but it's such a mess.

I understand the point about not logging in, but I like to log in because I have immediate access to my subscriptions, I can like a video and some comments are excellent.

The playlist function is also really useful if you haven't got time to watch a particular documentary.

I've so far managed to avoid using my real name. The cynic in me says that linking YouTube to your Google account, using Facebook as your log in (which I avoid) has an ulterior motive, particularly following the Snowden revelations.

it asked me too , pretty much forced to make a google+ page or use your real name...

so I just clicked yes and made a channel called anonymous for that to be my name :D

Same happened to me, I didn't get the usual box but noticed that it was suddenly using my full name. Can't remember exactly what I did to get it back but think I disabled/deleted my G+ pages/account.

Yes I do hate all this NSA **** about putting a name to every view, but you can switch back to your alias account by clicking the tiny arrow in the top right, then click "Switch account", then you will see your full name account and your alias account and you can switch between them.

Just be careful what you search/watch on Youtube from now on. :(

I refuse to have a g+ account so now I just operate under my email account. I can no longer comment on youtube (or probably upload videos) but that's something I'm willing to live with. A few times I've gone to comment, had a pop-up to say I need a g+ account so fob it off. \\edit I do instantly realise though that my comment would have been so un-beneficial to the world in the scheme of things that it was probably simply saving my self the time of typing it out. (equally I now realise this post was a complete waste of my life) //edit

If you did everything Google recommend and suggest it would be so intrusive.

By default Google will track my movements via gps (i.e. to about 1m accuracy) using my phone. It will save every search term. It will have my comments on youtube videos placed under my own name. It will have my full name and pictures displayed to the world on a G+ page. Not to mention it reading all my emails on gmail.

From this it know where I live it has a street view of this place, it know where I work, who I am and what I do on the internet. Oh, and it seems it has no issue to just pass all this info onto the security services simply because they feel like being a bit nosy. Thankfully, in the scheme of things and history, we have a government which is generally friendly towards its own citizens (assuming you're white).

It's quite scary to think there are hundreds of thousands of people out there that simply allow these companies their default settings because they're free.

I was having a little peek at a girls profile on facebook the other day. Amazingly she had a picture of her driving license publicly available, fortunately for her I'm not a weirdo, but if I was I would know where she lives, her DoB and full name. Quite scary tbh!

Oh, yeah it was a super pain trying to delete all the g+/youtube profiles so I could just return to using my email!

or download tor you don't even need to install it as it runs from a folder so can be on a flashdrive etc.

they won't be able to identify who watched it :D
Tor (originally TOR, an acronym for The Onion Router, a usage now abandoned)[5] is free software for enabling online anonymity. Tor directs Internet traffic through a free, worldwide, volunteer network consisting of more than four thousand relays[6] to conceal a user's location or usage from anyone conducting network surveillance or traffic analysis. Using Tor makes it more difficult to trace Internet activity, including "visits to Web sites, online posts, instant messages, and other communication forms", back to the user[7] and is intended to protect the personal privacy of users, as well as their freedom and ability to conduct confidential business by keeping their internet activities from being monitored.

I heard (don't know if it's true) that TOR is not as anonymous these days.

I think that's BS, the silkroad guy only got arrested because he was sloppy and used his real email addy linked to his real name to promote his website on forums in the early days.

look how many dealers got arrested ,
if I remember right it was 2 in aus , 5 in the uk and 4 in the USA out of the thousands who we are told were using the website
now all the people that didn't get busted are dealing again on another website.
if tor was broken they would all be in jail and not just a handful
BTW there was also an update to the "HTTPS everywhere" part of tor about a week ago

anyway if they are bouncing traffic though 4000 relays it's about as likely the NSA could indentify you as it is the people doing botnets they never seem to get caught.

I doubt anyone on here is doing anything that warrants attention from any agencies anyway though but if people want privacy on social media websites then use TOR

people have been given court orders to hand over their PGP keys as well so doubt the NSA is able to crack that either at least in any reasonable timeframe

to those who have changed it you can just revert back to old ways in settings on your channel. if you get it pop up dont change any name or sometimes just pressing escape will work.

if you did change it and it looks like you lost your cahnnel you havent so dont panic. just signout of your channel then back in ten revert back.

Interesting. A very quick Google search suggests it was a browser vulnerability. There was also mention of a bitcoin footprint.

What about VPN? How does that compare to TOR?

I doubt most VPN's are worth it they could also be ran by the NSA for all we know

I think you would have to run your bitcoins through multiple addresses and delete them, to be untrackable but you can also buy bitcoins in person for cash from people on localbitcoins so there would be no bank transfers etc to trace and noway to see who bought the coins.

they would only know your addresses if they were stored on your computer and had access to it, then from there could possibly chase where they went but there are multiple websites that let you make temporary addresses so I guess you would have to be sloppy again.

put tor and your bitcoin dat file on a usb key, smash it if the feds come knocking :D

I personally believe tor has been compromised. It's not hard to trace unique packets no matter how many tor nodes it traverses.

They're not going to shut down everyone using tor overnight. That would just be plain obvious and stupid and they would lose a prime tool they have managed to commandeer.

Just like the PRISM leak, and how they fed the corporations with the statements they wanted them to publicise.

There are supercomputers and mainframe computers jam packed with profiles on every internet user in Europe and the Americas. They have (or are at least testing) quantum supercomputers which can render 265bit encryption utterly pointless in a matter of seconds. If you think they even need your IP address to track you these days, think again.

These are just a couple of things which have materialised since I made my large post in the original NSA thread a few months ago.
