Youtube issues.

Hey,

Over the last two or three weeks, I've noticed that when playing a youtube video, it gets to a point where it'll quite often freeze. In order to get it to continue playing, I have to alter the quality, from say 720p to 480p. Sometimes, it's necessary to repeat this more than once to be able to watch the whole video.

It doesn't always happen, but I'd probably say around fifty percent of the time. Everything else is running fine, e.g. games, websites and general browsing, etc.

Ideas? :)

@ gillywibble - already disabled. First thing I tried. Thank you for the suggestion, though. :)

@ Sliver - I only use Firefox atm, though I suppose I could try IE. :)

Probably nothing in it, but I have wondered if the motherboard software, eg. Gigabyte Easy Tune, and so forth, could be part of the problem. I installed at least a couple of pieces of software (mobo disk) when I built my new rig, but seeing as people usually tend to say the extra software isn't worth the quirks, it has now got me thinking.

Same here, video looks fully loaded but will just stop short and have to restart it from the beginning, or alter quality, I have had videos get 3 minutes in for them to just restart themselves from the start, some just won't start to play at all and can take some refreshes or altering quality for them to start, talktalk user here as well but other people are having the same issues so i think it's more a youtube problem.

Right click on a video, click Settings and disable 'Enable Hardware Acceleration'.

See if that makes a difference.

Exactly what I was about to suggest. Flash has a major issue trying to enable hardware acceleration and when I tried it there were so many intermittent issues with YouTube. Took quite some time to realise the problem.

Did you try this OP?

Doesn't seem to have helped. It won't buffer and load the video.

I'm getting similar issues with Youtube on my iPad, yet it seems to work better on my laptop.

Are you streaming over wifi at all?

I'm connected with wi-fi on a MacBook.

@ KIA - when it froze, the reading was 0 kbs.

@ trentlad - yes, I did try it. No luck I'm afraid.

@ hyperst - yeah, I agree. I think it's more of a youtube issue than Talk Talk. Maybe something to do with youtube's recent evolution.

I've also noticed that when clicking on the video, the progress bar at the bottom will move normally (from left to right), and then all of a sudden it will have made its way to the other side way, way too quickly. That's when I know there'll be a problem. At least 1 out of 2 videos are affected.

It's just youtube.

It's naff at times and nothing to do with your connection. Web player will freeze and refuse to buffer more, but I can download the video from youtube via an app at 20Mbit/Sec solid.
