YouTube prankster shot (lol)

Exactly. I could drive down to my local camping shop and pick up a 5" fixed blade "tactical" knife right now if I wanted to, sure it's not quite a Mac10 in 3 minutes, but it's far from impossible
All the age gating has done is created an opportunity in these communities to resell blades whilst profiting from it.

Wonder when Mumsnet will realise it.

Over here there isn't a good possibility that the person you're about to punch isn't carrying a gun that they're going to use on you after said punch...

High levels of gun carry (in particular concealed carry) do raise the stakes somewhat - not only because if you've got a gun you're obviously more likely to use it, but because there's always the risk your opponent has one, so you aren't going to take any chances that they use theirs first :(

Really though?

Many shops don't sell them online any more because they don't have access to verification systems. Or they just can't be bothered. Amazon do, but look at the warning on them....

"Age Verification Required: This product is not for sale to people under the age of 18 and will require an online age verification check. To confirm the recipient is over 18, valid photographic ID with a date of birth may also be required upon delivery. The driver will input your year of birth into their device and may then require an ID check to complete the age verification process."

I mean, seriously? All this for what? Do they honestly think this is going to stop kids getting them? If a kid wants a knife, they will just take one from the kitchen. Or from dad's toolbox.

It's not as stupid as the suggestion to ban all pointed kitchen knifes which some or other brain-dead MP comes up with every once in a while

I have noticed that some knives have appeared in the shops that don't have points. So called safety knives.

Actually, it's a good thing for me, cus I'm not allowed pointy knives, but let's hope they aren't all going to be like that soon.

Of course you're never going to stop someone who is determined to carry a sharp object from doing so (hell they could go to the local park, snap a stick off a tree and rub it against the pavement a few times to sharpen the end), but it's not about stopping them completely (although obviously that would be the ideal outcome). If it makes it more difficult and that's enough to put a few kids off carrying them then is that not worth a few seconds of minor inconvenience once every year or 2 when you need to buy some new stanley blades or a kitchen knife? :p

It's probably not worth it when it just results in ever more ridiculous impingements on individual liberty as the previous attempt inevitably fails.

In the UK, and probably most European countries, that would have ended in the shooter walking away, annoyed, or a scuffle. In short, nothing much.

In what way is whipping out a gun and shooting, with no pause or warning, a reasonable or defendable course of action?

What a moron.

Maybe I'm a bit weird, but I've never felt having to flash my drivers licence at the cashier* (or the fact I need to have a licence at all just to drive a car) to be much of "ridiculous impingement" on my "individual liberty"

* sadly a very rare occurrence these days! :(

Ridiculous, isn't it?

Of course, the YouTuber was annoying, but "annoying" shouldn't give someone the right to shoot, lol. Otherwise, half of the politicians in the world would be dead by now.

You equate what that youtuber did to being equal to random politicians speaking nonsense you watch on videos?

Edit, so lets say donald trump said something stupid, i saw that on a video...

So that is equal to someone harassing me who wont leave me alone, who keeps following me, who is acting crazy?

I think not.

Oh, I agree, it's not at all equal. With Trump I'd use a 50 cal.

There can be a fine difference between being annoying and threatening and that line is decided by the victim, not the aggressor.

Blunt spoon!

True.

I am surprised there haven't been more incidents like this, especially with the bomber pranks that were popular years ago.

Throw a backpack at someone and scream "Allahu Akbar" and I think someone really would be entitled to shoot you!

A lot of the streamers lived in California or New York so if there hasn't really been many circumstances where a gun would be involved.

Since a lot of streamers have taken it upon themselves to move to the likes of Texas for tax reasons... well they get what they deserve for forgetting that annoying people has consequences.
