YouTube Premium

It wasn't a problem before Google purchased YouTube lol
Where did the funding come from in the year Youtube existed before google bought it?

I know, I have no idea where Google would find the money...

Advertising was what, $8bn for Youtube last year? You seem to be under the impression Google should just keep chucking $8bn a year and climbing at Youtube just so you can watch some videos without ads?

Youtube needs to be able to sustain itself. Google would have offloaded it years ago if it couldn't.

Can anyone help with setting this up, tried doing Turkey, Argentina and even Ukraine with a VPN, still doesn't work. Says it's not available in my region?
Use a different browser, one that you have not logged into google.Start your VPN then navigate to google home page.
At the bottom it should tell your location turkey, argentina wherever you set the vpn too. Then goto youtube log in and you should see their currency when you want to sign up to premium.

Thanks, only doing this because my TIDAL subscription has ended

Is it me or is YouTube getting really, really carried away with ads these days?! Feels like I’m watching Sky TV in the early 2000s.

I’m curious as to how many of you pay for YouTube premium and also interested to see if anyone has any tips to get it at a legitimate discount.

Cheers.
They make them extra super annoying too to force you to get premium. I just use Vanced on my phone but I can't do that on my TV so I'm getting more and more tempted with just getting premium

On the one hand I'm not against paying for YT premium, but on the other hand too many parts of the site are like something out of the 90s, comments, search, etc. are way too poor for the price they want. I'm dead set against paying for it though on principle due to the way they try to manipulate and frustrate people into paying with the ad patterns (something which has come out as something they do). They'd have to make some serious changes or drop the price a lot for me to feel like it was worth the money despite spending a lot of time on YT.

Again not going to say how as it will just result in it quickly being removed but they've messed something up with the latest platform update and you can instantly skip all but mid-live stream ads without using any external tools, but a feature of the site itself, which I think is hilarious.

I have a different issue with buying premium in that, I very rarely ever log into anything "Google" on my PC, so I watch YT whilst being logged out for 100% of my YT time, meaning buying Premium would require me to be logged in. I genuinely think it's been about 9 years since I last logged in (Nov '14 rings a bell as I'd literally just left the RAF days before) and old habits die hard for me.

When I find a channel I like (about 65 so far) I add them as a favourite into my browser so that has become my "subscription" method and, should I feel the need to financially support any of the much smaller channels, most have a Patreon page or similar to donate money directly. I also see that some of those channels are earning $10k-$85k a month just from these sites so generally don't give money to those ones.

You're quite right, that's exactly what I think.

**** Google, I don't give a **** how it funds YT either. Why should I? How much are they worth again?

I think they owe everyone free unfettered YT for all the data and information they have stolen from us, they're utter *****, and I find it absolutely baffling why anyone would defend their interests.

That's my take, I'm not going to run defense for hugely wealthy and exploitative mega-corps - I'll leave that up to others.

:D

You could just use a "Piped" alternative to the YouTube frontend, like https://invidious.io.

Yeah, this isn't going to get annoying. Luckily you can just hit the 'X' and get rid - for now.

another corollary - context menu option to copy video url at current time point is gone ... so have to artificially create it , if that still works.
(they want people to watch from the start)
