YouTube scanning music playing in background of your video. Whoa!

You do it all the time, you hear the first few bars of a song and you know what it is straight away.

I read somewhere that people can identify a track based on 0.2s of it. I seem to recall reading that pretty much everyone can identify Eleanor Rigby from just tiny portions of the strings.

Thanx for all the replies, I was aware that pretty much every cell out there has a "Tune ID" function (great to see the inner workings of Shizam BTW!) but I didnt know YT did it! I wouldnt have been surprised by that message if a CD was used in the video soundtrack but lol...they have tune ID software listening out for ANYTHING. So yeah...TV, radio, iPod dock playing away while you shoot...they will know!

Oh well at least they didnt block it worldwide. I find the region thing very confusing. Also I had made the video *private* cuz it was only for family. I doubt the French & Germans would be interested in my kitchen :p

What if you had access to the database, theoretically you could change your speaking with a bit of moving around so you have the same peak frequencies at the same time as certain songs?
How many peaks does it send off?, as it could be feasible to have a try at it and see what happens for the lulz.
