Earth Space Edge Video, Very Awesome

Should belong in the youtube thread, but i thought for other people interested in astronomy I'd make its own thread.

Basically a bunch of guys attach a HD camera to a balloon and let it go, the result is a pretty damn awesome video.

Especially it falling for the first 20secs.

And anyone interested in how they did it or doing it them selfs

http://bear.sbszoo.com/bear3-4/bear4.htm

Thats how they did it.

Enjoy

Saw the guys on that BBC science show do something like this only a few weeks ago, although not in HD.

Absolutely awesome though, the footage from the edge of space is beautiful.

That was pretty damn cool :)

It would have been nice to have some more stabilisation on the camera, although it would take some pretty sophisticated equipment to get any kind of stability during the freefall descent.

Anyway, I was also highly amused by one of the "related video" links that popped up afterwards: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Am67-Sew7k OMG Michael Jackson's ghost?! :D

Some years ago someone put some serious padding around a video camera then dropped it down the north wall of the Eiger. Much of the film could be used, and showed what you'd see if you fell down it. Well, until you died, at least. Don't know if the film is still around.
