We use lynched all the time where whenever some politician or other person is a made a scape goat.
Agreed but although I don't think it constitutes anything approaching a racial slur, the context she used it in is still odd. For instance it wouldn't approach anything you mentioned in your later sentence there, which I would think of as an archetypical usage of the term.

Not really it fits better than "kneecap him in a back ally" etc.



Look at it this way if she's said it about a white guy no one would have batted an eye, despite (if taken literally) the act being completely identical.

The context is "he's really good, what can the new guys do to take him on"

"gang up on him and kill him off the course"

It is possible that in the US the typical usage of the word is different considering their history. So while we wouldn't see "lynching" as anything overtly racist they might in the US.
