That documentary is excruciatingly inaccurate. There was no conflict between James and Paul. The conflict was between the Judaiser faction (who were definitely not relatives of Jesus) and everyone else, which included Peter, Paul, James, etc. The Judaisers lost, despite inflicting considerable damage on the early church.
The picture of Jesus that we get from the NT consists of various perspectives from eyewitnesses (e.g. John), Jesus' own relatives (e.g. James), new converts who were contemporary with the eyewitnesses (e.g. Luke & Paul) and late 1st century reflection (e.g. the Johannine community).
