Zavvi placed into administration

I got the Friends series 1-10 boxset from Zavvi for £40 recently, absolute bargain considering its usually around £100

£40 is the cheapest i've seen it. I've been looking at the box set and it can be had for £50 in most places. I really want the Sopranos Deluxe box set its £88-£100 i'm now hoping Zavvi flock it off cheap that's be nice.

I'm buying shares in Ernst & Young, they've never been so busy.

It was Deloitte and Touche that dealt with the administration of Woolworths and Entertainment UK Ltd ;) Even Deloitte have had to lay off 250 staff, but purely because a lot of the market for Real Estate has dropped considerably.

As already said Entertainment UK Ltd supplied all the media to Zavvi so this was expected really.

Irrelevant.. planning to open a large retail store takes a lot of time. This would have been started well before this 'downturn' became more obvious.

Perhaps, but if consumer spending on the high street has been down for a while it seems like a bad move.

I know this is a very small percentage of takings, but the Asda store I worked at while at uni will be taking ~£1m a week at the moment.

Plus Asda are creeping up on other supermarkets, increasing profits etc etc.

lol.the last tesco store i worked in took 2million each week and took 4.3 million last xmas week, the store i now work in is smaller and take's 1.8 million each week and they have taken 3.5 million in the last week.
your asda store must have been very quiet.

We should open a book on who's next of the big retailers to fall; HMV, DSG, WH-Smith etc

I expect to see the carpet sellers struggle, Allied Carpets, Carpetright. Also DIY, maybe Wicks or Focus. And furniture retailers like DFS, Courts.

I've never understood how there are so many ladies clothes shops like Monsoon, Warehouse etc. Surely they can't all survive. Not exactly retailers but surely we've got to lose some Estate Agents.

I'm not sure about the DIY suggestion. I suspect they might do ok as fewer people pay out for professionals to do jobs for them and start to take on more themselves.

Courts went ages ago didn't they?

When I was in town on Saturday (Nottingham) the difference between HMW and Zavvi was quite clear to see. HMW on the one hand had queues the length of the store almost, whereas Zavvi had next to know queues. I know it's difficult to make an objective view from a snapshot at one particular time, but coincidence with this story?

Thanks for the finanical advice, but i was of course joking. You must be an accountant, or perhaps a tax inspector.

I'll be both in three years if I pass my exams :p Well, a chartered accountant and chartered tax advisor.

I knew you weren't gonna go out and buy shares but just saying you couldn't have bought them anyway.

:o Some people don't like being told when they're wrong.
