Zavvi placed into administration

Fair enough. I clearly mis-read the post, no need for the sarcasm.

My local Asda which opened in summer is supposedly dropping 50 of its staff in the new year. No idea if that's down to lack of sales, lack of customers or they just have too many workers.

Shame about Zavvi, especially for the workers. Have had a few bargains in there too.

Always liked the Zavvi in town for some decent DVD deals occasionally, and some of the staff are great to chat with about movies - was about to ask one for the 2 DVD set of The Mist when I was buying it and before I even opened my mouth the dude told me they had it out back and would I like it instead.

Will miss the place, was good for browsing if anything.

They had no choice - Virgin sold them.

Pick a better name then, good god "Zavvi". It sounds like some sort of ointment women use on their private parts.

Or even the name of their private parts! Consignia anyone?

Thrush? Don't worry, rub on some soothing Zavvi.

Didn't take them long to run out of cash once Woolies shut.

What would you call them?

I did think "Zavvi" was a bit of ridiculous name the first time I saw it changed from Virgin, but honestly - I couldn't think of anything else they could have been called, lol.

Why do people even use it anyway?

Haven't been in one for years except when they have a sale on and you can pick up a bundle of DVD's for a tenner or whatever. Internet is just cheaper otherwise.

Its not as if you have to "try a DVD on for size" before you buy it.

Morrison's are creeping up and fast and Sainsbury's are looking ever improving on the market competition. I don't think Tesco are as safe as people think they are. they have lost a lot of ground recently to Morrison's and Sainsburys. The feed you family for a fiver campaign by Jamie Oliver has really taken off.

Hmm, who else reckons that they could have gone into administration at the beginning of the month, but didn't so they could get their Christmas sales in, and also gift vouchers. To take that further, how many people reckon that they also wont take gift vouchers in the upcoming final sale?

Can see a few companies pulling a similar move over the next week.

they probably could have months ago, but its a business and it will continue to run for as long as it can.

What has this got to do with Zavvi? :p

The suppliers of Sainsbury's DVDs and CDs etc. was Woolworths though.

It's true. For so many goods, the brick and mortar shop aspect is a pointless middle-man. Zavvi, HMV, GAME and the like can all gtfo as far as I'm concerned. All hail Amazon and Play!
