Zen MaxDSL information

I must admit, even though the quality of service is touted as high, the high price of the Home 2000 service (no longer available) at £34.99 might make some people decide to go elsewhere, even though the available companies that have truly Unlimited 2mb is becoming smaller by the day, only seems to be AOL that can sustain such promises.

With 8mb coming slowly into the frame, I cant imagine many companies offering truly unlimited anymore, not even the might of AOL. Was good to begin with, but all good things must come to an end :o

I am not really sure what i would get with max dsl am currently on 2meg zen and its been good these are what Dr speedtouch gives.

ReceiveAttenuation_dB= 41
ReceiveMargin_dB= 28
SendAttenuation_dB= 23
SendMargin_dB= 28

What would i realistikly get with MaxDsl on those stats.

Take a guess and plug in the first two?
Attenuation matches up, leaving you with....(SNR) Margin. Hard stuff that.

I am not sure how accurate that checker is, it seems very heavily biased on the SNR. You can have a Loop loss of 30, but if your margin is 10, it shows a slow speed.

We will see on the 31st when a few more people get it.

And your point is?

MaxDSL is all about SNR, the higher your SNR, the better your line is and the higher you'll sync.

so it really doesnt matter if you have 60+db line attenuation or does it have limits as in once the line reaches 60db attenuation it doesnt continue to "up" the line to 8mbp and instead gives you 5.5mbp say.

edit: thats just an example ^^

No, when it syncs it pretty much ignores the attenuation and the modem and DSLAM agree a speed to reach the target SNR (i.e. 6dB for Max).

so line attentuation is definately out of the window? its now purely based upon the SNR? if thats the case im rollin in at 8mbp i hope ;)

So what kind of speed with maxdsl would I be looking at with these pathetic stats

Statistics Downstream
Line Rate 576 Kbps
Attainable Line Rate 1472 Kbps
Noise Margin 12.9 dB
Line Attenuation 57.5 dB
Output Power 11.9 dBm

I thought that was for standard dsl, not maxdsl?

Standard DSL? MaxDSL is standard ADSL1, nothing's different apart from a name BT have used that seems to be causing a lot of confusion.

Sounds like anything above 8mb will be the ADSL2+ that people will be waiting to see if it is as good as it is cracked up to be. You never know, they might reconstruct a new service where it is really cheap and allow to offer people unlimited downloads at insane speeds. Can always dream :p

im just dreaming of speeds higher than 512k :( :( :(
