ZEN - Speed Problem

I have been with zen now for a few years and never had a problem. Now this past number of days, I have noticed browsing has become slow and what really got me wondering is when streaming videos started to buffer all the time.

My routers connection is around 3MB - 3.5Mb but according to speedtest.net, my download rate is around 0.26Mb/s and my upload is around 0.38Mb/s. My download is worse than my upload?

Now matter what file I try to download I can't get past 30k than the usual 150k+. Despite trying several different routers and usb modem via the test socket at the master socket, the speed doesn't get any better and the download rate remains below 0.30Mb/s.

My next door neighbour is with BT and speedtest.net reports their connection fine at 3.0+ Mb/s.

Can anyone offer any help in this situation. I thought maybe my quota had been reached but I never really go over 50% of my quota so thats not the case.

Zen wouldn't have throttled my connection would they?

If nothing changes tomorrow, I will have to ring them but some feedback from yourselves would be great.

I take it your line is still synced at around 3Mbit downstream?

Might be handy to post the stats from your router that shows SNR margins and the like - that way people can give you some advice if anything is amiss.

Zen are a fairly decent ISP and I doubt any drop in speed would be due to congestion at their end, having said that I've had around 20 lines provisioned by them in the last 6 weeks all of which have had stuck BRAS profiles, and provisioned as ADSL1 instead of ADSL2 and all sorts of other issues.

Yes my line is synced at the rates below which is what puzzles me.

Here are the details:

Connection Speed 3136 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 50.0 db 23.5 db
Noise Margin 6.3 db 20.0 db

Zen don't throttle connections, only time they would stop is if you went over you bandwidth for the month. Might be worth giving tech support tomorrow afternoon to see what they see at their end.

Just looked at the Bras profiles from my portal and these are the last few stats:

13/9/10 adsl2500
14/9/10 adsl2000
15/9/10 adsl1750
16/9/10 adsl1750
17/9/10 adsl250

While in the process of getting my information gathered for contacting Zen, my connection has jumped back to near what it should be. I think I will hold off from ringing Zen to see what this connection does throughout the day.

Very Strange.

take the modem to the test port to rule out internal wiring causing the downstream to fluctuate which would cause the bras profile to drop. leaving the modem there for 3 days will tell you as bras profiles are usually updated every 72hrs. zen would likely ask you to do the same if you called them unless they run a network incident check which shows anything
