But ronaldinho was poor for most of the tornament (by his standards anyway), didnt set the world alight like we all thaught he could.
Zidane was very impressive up until the headbutt so, for performances I think he should get it (if you dicount the headbutt).
There were not many outstanding players in this WC really, shame.
Zidane did some of his magic, shame he went nuts at the end there.

Personally ignoring the headbutt incident Zidane definitely deserved to get the award for the way he played and carried his team against Brazil and Portugal.
If your including the headbutt then no he doesnt deserve the award tbh but then the voting had finished by half time :p.
 
Cannavaro probably deserved it in all honesty, although Zidane did have a very good tournament. Can't blame him for nutting Materazzi either.
 
I don't really understand why he has got this 'Golden Ball'. From waht I saw of the french team in general was just another average team just like all of the others.

I didn't see ZZ doing anything special at all. I mean he couldn't even nutt the guy properly FFS.

Have to disagree, Zidane outclassed him, his smile (camel) isnt a sign of happiness its a dissfigurement :D

Well, Zidane had already been suspended for 2 bookings and also sent off. If thats the case, why not give Young player to Ronaldo who was never suspended OR sent off?

You can't have one rule for someone and another for someone else.

It's also annoying because Zidane was clearly not the best player at the Tournament, he was rather poor in the first few games and the final. Infact, I'd say he played 2 games of quality football. For me, Cannavaro played 7 games of quality football, conceeded 1 goal from opposition and won the world cup (as captain).
But, we all know how bad Fifa are at giving out awards this year.
 
FIFA didn't deicde who won both awards though. The young player was voted for by the public and then the top five were then judged by a panel appointed by FIFA.

The golden ball was voted for by the journalists covering the WC. Something FIFA have no control over.
 
Christ why do you lot all think Cannavaro should have won the golden ball award??. As far as im concerned, he really did **** all in the WC...did he score any goals?? NOPE...did he make any amazing midfield passes??...NOPE..all he did was play defensively and played very well but sadly that sort of performance doesnt win you the golden ball award. If it did then i would say John Terry deserves it more than Cannavaro:p.

Dont get me wrong, cannavaro is an excellent defensive back but there is no way he should have won it. Anyways i dont think he really cares tbh, he got the WC whereas Zidane didnt...and i know what i would rather have :p

As i said before well done Zidane for getting the award, definitely deserves it imho.
