Zip on the wrong side?!

To be fair, the guy in the picture wearing the gap does look like Justin Bieber. So I would assume the zip is on the correct side.

Got a (definitely males!) Timberland jacket that has the zip on the other side. Catches me out all the time too.

Am I alone in wondering why people wear these, seems like it's to wear on top of a coat / jacket.

What about your arms man! Don't they get cold?

Ignoring the fashion accessory part (gap etc.. ;)) it's probably something to do with weight and movement. They starred off as down jackets to keep your core warm when excercising. No sleeves mean you have less weight when storing it in your bag for when its needed (for example down ones stored in your bag to put on when having a break when climbing/walking) and allows you full movement of your arms when wearing it doing the excercises. Then there's the point that arms can be exposed but as long as your core is warm you're really not going to have much of an issue in generally cold weather.

I wear my thin down one underneath a wind proof soft shell when I need a bit of extra warmth in genera but would wear it over my jacket if I had stopped excercising and decided i needed to keep warm (not taking any layers off). Not sure what the fashionable thing is to do though...

Seems to be an american thing to do, ive got a couple of hoodie type zip jackets, and they all have the zips on the 'wrong' side, got used to it now not a massive issue.

I'm currently wearing an American hoody and the zip is on the wrong side. I have had it for a couple of years now and still get confused when I try to zip it up :P
