ZX Touch

I have not seen that but i do remember the other one that was on kickstarter or some other funding site that my friend took to court and won in a landmark ruling as the "product" was never delivered and their listing stated that he was purchasing an item not funding the development that you might get a product at the end of it.

To be honest though this may look great but does it do anything that cant be done on a Ambernic RG Cube at £50?

The Ambernic (£160 odd new) looks to be more of a console emulator. This ZX Touch has more featured geard toward the Speccy, particularly the on-screen keyboard input required for many games, whereas I didn't see any mention of that on the Ambernic's site.

My biggest concern is how well that ministick will hold up to the abuse of Daley Thompson's DECATHLON!!! :D

Yeah, i did see that and it had some good features. To be fair tho you could easily do similar with a tablet, cheap mobile phone or chromebook. All much cheaper and multifunctional.

I understand its an extremely niche product and it looks well executed however its very expensive for what it is but then again although i grew up with ZXSpectrum(As if you couldnt tell lol) i dont have great nostalgia that i have for Arcades machines or Consoles.

BTW i meant the RG CubeXX which is about £50.

As an original Speccy user with a broken Kempston joystick, I could never play a Speccy game without a keyboard. ZXPLSpace ftw!

Totally different from the OP device but there are Speccy Nexts and N-Gos out there which provide a far better and more realistic Speccy experience

How easy is the RG CubeXX to set up? Does it come with emulators already on it?

Does anyone have one of these? https://zx-touch.com/

Looks very cool, but that price :(
I've just bought one. Definaltly worth the price I think. It might be a little expensive, but just remember this is a direct emulation machine. It doesn't run android, or fuze etc. And unlike the pain I've had trying to emulate the spectrum on machines like the Retroid pocket flip 2, which is around £100 more and emulates many computers, this machine was more or less made by one person. Very limited in stock because of this but is very easy to repair. It is also dedicated to the spectrum which concentrates it's focus on making it totally compatable with Spectrum software.

You get a reliable device with less fiddling than other multi platform devices. And I personally think that out of the box this is the most reliable and compatable handheld device available. And at least it was done the correct way, developed and put out to sale rather than giving someone money to buy one that hasn't been made yet, wait months for backers to give enough money to the company that's making it, only to find they have gone bankrupt and your hard earned cash has gone and you have no product.

The extra cash to buy something like this supports the developer. And as far as I'm concerned, they deserve it, if it is as good as the reviews I've seen.

I'm especially interested in the zx spectrum and the Amiga machines. And although there is issues with the amiga machines at present, because the company has essentially fragmented (thus you don't see Commodore with the Amiga name together anymore, and kick-start roms being owned by Amiga Corporation making an original Commodore Amiga difficult to make with out all companies cooperating together).

Emulation of the Zx Spectrum however is legal because Amstrad who owns the amiga rom, allows distribution of the spectrum rom as long as the copyright is not altered. (very kind of them!) So the Gent making the ZXT can make the console and include it's rom as part of the package with out paying a penny.

(of course you still however have to own the game roms for it to be legal to download them)

But in regards to this being a single person project I think we must realise the time and effort individuals put into projects like this. As either a sole income or some extra cash on the side of their main job. Much like unique hand made items you can buy on Ebay or Etsy, the price reflects how much time and effort the individual has put in and their overheads. And what price they need to put the item or device at in order to make the money back that it cost them in the first place developing the device and the software that runs it. With out a higher price tag individuals who make these things can't make it cost effective and support it with updates.

Big companies can churn out lots of budget machines because they have the staff, money and time. Individuals however can't.

So that's why I think the ZXT is well worth the price considering who's working on it. And I think that to get a product to work this well is an achievement for an individual. They deserve to make a profit on a device like this.

I look forward to getting mine in a weeks time. (if not less ((bank holiday))...)
