I don't understand why a 980Ti owner would jump to a 1080 tbh anyway. It's like being a 970 owner jumping to a 1060. Id rather wait for 1080Ti before making a decision to jump or wait for volta. For the proper high end not the make believe high end.
If you were to do it today, it is not as good, because the 980ti has now tanked in value, and the 1080 has gone up since launch. Still, the 1080 is noticably faster and is definitely and upgrade, not "the same", as someone said before. Compared to SLI 980ti, you will get 100% working performance in every game with no microstuttering, also about 200w power usage instead of 500w from SLI 980ti.
