Relentless,

The doors, it's under the rubbers and out of sight, whats the issue? The door still functions as it should?

The windscreen to roof is a known issue on that generation Civic, speak with any dealer or "specialist" and they should be fully aware and be able to fix with ease :)

Re: modern rust,

All cars rust just at different levels and speeds. Key issues are how it's cared for and what sort of life the car has had.

The issue is the car is rusting and I for one prefer it not to, personally I dont think a car should be rusting at that age but if you are happy with that then happy days

MK5 Golfs have a well known rust issue on the front wings. I have no idea why.

My 2003 mk4 Golf didn't have a spot of rust on it.

My 1994 Corrado has one tiny blemish that I'm going to get sorted soon.

Fair enough, but if you wanted to fix the roof rust there is a suitable method that is cheap and prevents the roof getting any worse. Best of luck with it either way :)

I got it fixed under Honda's corrosion warranty, got it back and then found the rust on the doors, by that point I lost all CBA for the car and sold it

In all honesty I have little patience with cars as soon as they start to become troublesome in anyway I get rid also the fact that I should have done more research before parting with my cash but still, a £7.5K 5 year old car should not be rusting as far as I'm concerned, others may have a different opinion but thats mine, either way I was lucky and got my money back plus learns

56 Plate Merc CL (something) - This had rust around the front wheel arch and also on the door sill?

This doesn't surprise me!! I still don't think Mercedes paint quality is up to much. The amount of Vito's I see with rust is crazy. And I am talking 639 chassis so current model.

In the 90's Mercedes was notorious for shocking body protection and poor paint and this seems to have carried on in to the early 2000's. I think the trouble is the paint is now water based. One of the positive thing's with modern car's is their use of other materials, so lots of plastic body panels and so on, rust should really be much less common.

I don't think I've seen a W210 recently without rust :p
Saw a W220 next to me in traffic the other day and every arch was rusted to bits!

But then again these are cars which are falling into the hands of people who don't really care about the car, more of the prestige. Much like old BMWs..

Always been the general consensus that Peugeots have excellent rust protection and some of the better paint finishes. Infact the French in general have always been good. My missus Primera is only 4 years younger than mine but is the later joint venture between Renault and Nissan. The paint quality is a lot better and no rust at all although on the flip side the engine and driving dynamics are a lot worse! Most jap cars have really thin paint from what I have owned except a Lexus LS400 that had a fantastic body for the age.

No where
I've seen a fair few modern Mercs with rust on the arches. I've always presumed it was down to a bad repair job.

no its down to them ordering steel with no finish except paint, which means the steels already rusting before it reaches the plant. :(
I can tell you the toughest customers to please steel wise are Toyota, land-rover/range-rover and jaguar. They ask for really low imperfections on the surface and have the plate galvanised, painted and wrapped for transporting.
