To be fair, I think those cards aren't gonna last too much longer at 1080p with all the bells & whistles on. Probably best to go with the R290 Pro when released

An R9 280x would be fine for 1080p surely?

Though little has been mentioned about the 290.

Thing is, a lot of these cards are fine now and for the next 12 months at 1080p.

But if texture resolution starts getting bigger, even 1080p with all the bells and whistles might need a bit more grunt.

Maybe the 290 (non x) would keep you going for 2-3 years...

Once next gen takes hold, Im thinking 1080p/1200p, with all settings maxed, min framerate 60+, will need 290X?

Option 3:
Wait 20nm

sell both 7950 for 300. grab a 7990 and a 7970.

How long between the price and specs being revealed and it being despatched do we have to make up our mind as to whether we think it's worth it? Also what if we have a preference of brand due to warranty e.t.c?
