They were mainly blocked because of the human rights act 1998, which is based on the ECHR.

There is an open door if the government wanted to use it.

No, there isn't. Because Assange's extradition was blocked on human rights grounds, however those objections were later overturned following commitments from the US regarding his treatment in the country. In other words, the courts have already ruled on that, and found that the extradition is compatible.

Reading the Press Summary (I ain't got no time for the full shebang), the reasons for appeal seem reasonable, and the assurances required quite moderate. Let's see whether the US can provide the necessary and the UK can finally stop paying to house this muppet:

Assurances

The court has found that Mr Assange has an arguable case on grounds iv), v) and ix). Unless the Government of the United States of America and the Secretary of State provide satisfactory assurances in respect of those grounds, the court will grant leave to appeal on each of those grounds.

It is open to the United States of America and the Secretary of State to offer assurances that would address each of those grounds: that Mr Assange is permitted to rely on the First Amendment, that he is not prejudiced at trial (including sentence) by reason of his nationality, that he is afforded the same First Amendment protections as a United States citizen and that the death penalty is not imposed: paras 237 to 242.

An assurance on the death penalty has, I believe, been given before. As for the first amendment stuff that could get tied up in US constitutional argument I guess?

The good news is that Assange be stuck in prison throughout this process.

Remember when his supporters said he was so sick, he could not survive Belmarsh, and would be dead any minute? That was all the way back in 2019, and he's still thriving. Just another lie.

Yet he's still rotting in prison.

Not really a win.

* it's where he belongs
* he's fighting extradition to the US; every ruling that delays it is a win for Assange

He won't be executed, but I hope he likes orange jumpsuits and solitary confinement. He'll be disappearing for the rest of his life +500 years into a SuperMax once he's convicted.

If posters attacking Assange found a folder of information listing information about war crimes that the US-UK did against innocent people would they attempt to get the information out to the public, either directly or through someone else?

Or would they be ok that the people murdering innocent civilians got away with it?

You already have your answer.

Or would they ensure that it went out through channels that redacted information that ensured that details such as the names of individuals who worked with allied forces or the names and addresses of homosexual men in Saudi Arabia were redacted?

The thing is that Assange didn't just report on war crimes, he also gave away non war crime information that was classified, and gave out information that had no "public interest" and actively put a lot of innocent people's lives at risk.

For all that he likes to say he was a "journalist" in his defence, he did none of the things that Journalists normally do to try to minimise the risk to the innocent in his disclosures, and seems to have taken the attitude that any information gathered/held by the US/UK was good to release, even if it was certain to lead to harm to innocents and there was no legitimate "journalistic" reason to release it.

IIRC he was also oddly biased in how he was more than happy to release information about one side but from memory was much slower/more reluctant to release it about others.

Sadly the UK has already tried breaking him in solitary....

convicted murders, rapist's etc get treated better.

That is what the establishment has told you to believe.

You know you could easily go and verify this yourself, right?

Maybe he did, maybe he didn't

He did.

...people still should receive equal treatment under the law, but we don't.

How exactly is Assange not receiving equal treatment? He has been subject to a generous number of appeals, with the arguments put forth by his team considered seriously, fairly, and in detail by the judges in these appeal cases. This is, again, all very well documented. If he was not receiving equal treatment he'd have been carted off to the US years ago.

The only realistic solution here is to send him back Australia, let them deal with it and stop wasting tax payers money on a political prisoner from another country.
