That's why i thought it was odd that the display was showing 04/2024...My research in 2023 suggested it's every 2 years indeed. So i don't know if the garage manually set the next due date or if it is automatically chosen by the car.

It is manually reset by the dealer when the service is carried out. So, possibly what has happened here is that this wasn't done (But then if this is the answer, why was the service carried out last year if it wasn't due until this year?).

Plus, I wonder why it had a brake fluid change in 2023 though - brake fluid is first done after 3 years and then every 2 years, so surely it was due in 2022.

What does the vehicle inspection comprise of? My M240i has just popped up saying it's due in March but also due in 3000 miles.

Do you mean Vehicle Inspection or Vehicle Check?

Vehicle Inspection is the MOT.
Vehicle Check is a service item which is carried out about every 36k miles or so.

How old is the car?

It says Vehicle Inspection. MOT isn't due till December. It's a 2019 model with 28k miles.

Vehicle Inspection is the MOT I think? It should just show a date with no associated mileage.

Vehicle Check will show date and remaining mileage.

It is unhelpful and confusing that these two very different things have such a similar name in the service screen.

When was the car registered? It's probably a car that's had an MOT earlier than when it was due once, perhaps when sold to a new owner, so now the date in the car doesn't match the real date.

Previous ones were in February, they MOT'd it when I bought it in December. I think it gave me an option to set the month in car when I was looking through the menu, now i know it's just the MOT I'll change it. Thanks.

It does give you the option to set the month, the MOT is the only thing you can set yourself. So it does sound like that's all it is. They don't make it very clear do they!

Just to confirm it is, do you also have a Vehicle Check service listed and does it show a date or mileage for that one rather than just a date?

Definitely not! Yes I have a Vehicle Check listed for March 2027 or 37k miles. I have no idea what the 3k miles relates to as there is nothing close to that on the app.

There must be something due in 3k miles then, strange it isn't clear. Brake pads perhaps?

Are you sure it's not showing vehicle inspection? What does it show for engine service?

Did the garage who did the service last year update the iDrive?

It is manually reset by the dealer when the service is carried out. So, possibly what has happened here is that this wasn't done (But then if this is the answer, why was the service carried out last year if it wasn't due until this year?).

Plus, I wonder why it had a brake fluid change in 2023 though - brake fluid is first done after 3 years and then every 2 years, so surely it was due in 2022.

Now I've read above that vehicle inspection = MOT, that makes sense. It was done in April 2023 so is due April 2024, as per idrive, and there is no mileage indicated.

Brake fluid was first changed in November 2020 on 37k, so indeed 3 years after, and if it's every two years, then I missed it in 2022 (maybe the idrive dates were also wrong then), and did it June 2023 instead with my oil service, and vehicle check. DOuble checking i-drive, brake fluid is dated until 2025, so my mistake there i.e. timing is all good after all.

So it's just engine oil and vehicle check which is apparently due. Maybe I'll email the BMW specialist who did the work to ask them if they could have done an incorrect reset...(likely because 04/2024 would only be 10 monts after June 2023.)

If it's not due until 2025 after all, is there harm to run the oil for 24 months?

Traded my Golf R in yesterday for a 2017 M2. I've always loved the M2 and first tried to get one about 4 years ago and it didn't work out at the time. Fast forward to a few weeks ago and I was browsing the few that were for sale here and found one that I liked the look of so last Friday after work I went out to view it and took it for a short test drive and I pretty much decided there & then I wanted it. I then got talking to the previous owner who has had a host of M cars and had a good chat and he'd advised that the car had been mapped and provided a dyno sheet, sent on a €5k+ invoice for fitting Intrax 1k2 coilovers. It also has an uprated intercooler. Still on a service pack until next year and, from what I can tell, it has pretty much every option bar sunroof and the speed limit display in the dash.

I was a little nervous changing because the Golf, despite being a tad boring at times, is still a very capable car, especially with the Revo stage 1 ECU & TCU tune. Still getting used to the M2 but it's on a different planet to the Golf in pretty much every area, which is to be expected, but I wasn't expecting it to be such a gulf for whatever reason. I thought the DSG gearbox in the R was good but the auto in the M2 is on another level, shifts quicker than the DSG and just feels better all around, and then the sound is just immense. I've only ever owned 4 pots (and a few 3cyl Smart Cars) so I'm still pinching myself and over the moon.

One (poor) picture for now:

Ive just rented a track prepped M2 for a blast around Silverstone in a few weeks with a couple work colleagues.

I shall take my GT R too for me to have some fun whilst they are getting to grips with track days and a coach brings them up to speed.

Im looking forward to battering the new M2 (if ready in time, if not previous model) around and see how it goes.
