I've just finished running CAT7 shielded ethernet cable to the top floor, had to purchase an ethernet cable joiner (for middle floor to top floor) so got a shielded one, yes I know it's over the top but price was cheap less then £20 total with cable and clips etc, anyway on speed test average is 945Mb on both upload and download so can't complain for my 1Gb package. Ended up buying another TP Link Gigaswitch at £12 for the top floor so plenty of ethernet ports now.

Side Note: WiFi speed was 200Mb for top floor and yes the router is on the bottom floor in hallway near front door. I do prefer ethernet for obvious reasons.

Could always stick an access point and connect that to the switch on the top floor, would massively improve WiFi speeds there too. Huawei AX3 is a good budget WiFi 6 access point. Set it with the same SSID and password and your devices will automatically swap between what's best.

No need, have everything more or less wired except my laptop, I have plenty of spare switches, I don't use my laptop much since it's only for updates, main desktop PC upstairs I use for gaming and most things.

I have boxed away my powerline Wi-Fi extenders since I don't really need them now. Btw I do have four spare routers as well but never needed to use them as access points.
Took me less then a hour to run the cable neatly to top floor to my TP Link 5 port gigaswitch (I also have 8 port gigaswitch as well on top floor for tv, backup PC etc so plenty of switches free).

Thanks anyway.

:)

I have a Technicolor router from Community Fibre - does anyone know if it is possible to disable WPS? It says it cannot as EasyMesh is enabled, but there is no way to turn EasyMesh off!

Might be easier to get a different router?..I don't use EasyMesh or have experience with Techicolor router, I always go for a good router with very good Wifi range, even when I use ethernet wired (my prefered way of connection).

I guess you can try phoning CF support?

I am on 1GB with VM at the moment, how does switching over work? do they install a new cable? would it be pretty quick as I already have 1GB?

VM contract ends in Feb thinking of getting the 3GB package as it's good value for what it is and I can get the speed.

I had mine installed last Friday, they run a new cable from nearest telegraph pole to your house, then drill a hole to run cable into your house and I had a new Linksys MX5400 router and Adtran SDX 631q modem setup by them. I actually removed their router and used my own TP Link router to their modem, works great. I removed my Virgin SH3 since no point having two active ISPs and my contract ends with them on 14th Feb (already cancelled with them online via autobot messenger, then you will chat with a Virgin staff member).

FYI it took only four days before Communtiy Fibre came and installed everything from applying online for the speed package you want, so pretty fast installation time.

I remember it actually took Virgin four months to do the installation, first three visits they came saying about the ground cable is blocked so I was waiting for their specialist engineering team to fix that. Ironic Virgin took four months and CF took four days lol, back then Virgin was the only fast fibre in my area, but now I can pick and choose,ie CF,BT,Plusnet,Sky etc ....

You're also getting 1gb upload too so it's a huge upgrade from VM's 1gb package's upload speed, which last time I looked was only ~104mb average. And assuming it's cable and not VM's full fibre you'll also see a big drop in latency too. Not to mention overall it's significantly cheaper than VM so well worth the move.

Edit: Whoops misread, yes the switching itself only takes a few days. Bare in mind since it's a different line you still need to contact VM to cancel their contract, but I highly suggest doing this after CF is installed, in case something does delay the install.

Also the 3gb package also means 3gb upload too. Crazy amount of speeds compared to VM!

Shout out to Community Fibre customer support. We moved out from our London place a little while ago to an area not covered. I was due to pay quite a hefty cancellation fee as I was only about 15 months into the 24 month contract but they halved it with no trouble at all. I did see it was in the terms but don’t think it is obligatory, more case by case. I think it was even less than what the half fee should be.

I will miss the connection, it was rock solid for the entire time, no downtime, incredibly low ping and cheap! Having gone from VM to OR FTTP and then finally to Community Fibre, it’s without doubt the most reliable.

Yes, this is what I normally would do. There's just not a huge amount of choice finding something with dual 10gbps ports!

Anybody else try the new official CF beta login, seems simple and easy to use :) .

What is that?

What TP-Link router do you use?

I actually tested the Velop mesh and it seems to work really well from what I saw. I only have 2 nodes, so the main router and a child and if I look on the Linksys app as I move from the front of my house to the back I can see in the app that for example my phone is connected to the node at the front of the house and as I move it then diverts to the node at the back.

Virgin with their pods was never as good and was pretty crap in fact, you had to effectively lose wifi before it would connect to the nearest pod.

I also have an old Asus RT-68u which I use as a repeater in another part of the house and have thought of replacing that with a Linksys node, plenty seem to be on sale on FB marketplace, one guy recently was selling them by the box, wonder if he still works for CF :D

I haven't got an email, they must be testing with a small amount of users first before rolling it out.

What can you do once you're logged in?

Biiling info, manage direct debit, help section, personal details like address and phone number etc, package info, referral link, pretty basic at the moment but still beta.
