Hi folks,

I'm just getting back into PC gaming and want to buy a 3rd party 1070. I'm not too fussed over noise and such, I just want reliability. Which would be best?

My PC has an i7-2600, 16gb RAM and currently running with an AMD 6990.
Can anyone foresee any issues I might have running a GTX 1070?

I'll be buying the 1070 in hopes of getting Occulus or HTC VR at some point but they're pretty pricey. If I could fork out for a 1080, I would but I can't right now.

that's referrence. AIBs will be better. looks like 1070 / 1080 overclocks around 10-15%. not bad
slightly worse than maxwell though...

Yeah I mean they're all reference - best we're gonna get for now.

In some games the gap closes between the 1070 and GTX 980 Ti and in a couple the Ti takes lead by a few frames, but generally it holds its own even OC vs OC

Anyone thinking of "free upgrading" to the 1070 from the 980ti? Benchmarks look decent around 5-10% increase from the 980ti to the 1070, extra 2GB vram & less power consumption.
Considering they will release at around £350 (hopefully) which I could probably make from my 980ti its not bad for no extra cash?
Worth it or not going forward?

No because it's like dating the twin sister after breaking up with one. If I upgrade then it will be an "upgrade" which is the 1080ti

I like the analogy :)
Yes I think it will be best to wait. The more benchmarks I see between the 980ti and 1070 the 980ti matches or even beats the 1070 in some games so actually it would be a downgrade...

Some of the headlines of "980ti destroyed by 1070" or "Bye Bye 980ti" are overdramatic and mostly not even accurate.

It's tempting to get a couple of them and sell the 980ti. I wouldn't have even thought about upgrading if I hadn't seen all the hype though so it's probably not worth while doing as it's only the division which gives me issues playing at max.

I don't think any one is suggesting upgrading from a 980ti to a 1070 by saying that. The 980ti is destroyed by the price not the performance (which is very close to each other).

Anyone considering buy a new card at that performance level would be silly to spend £500 on a ti now. So it is bye bye ti till the price comes down and then it's by bye ti cause there will be none left. :)
