Also it's clear in the picture of the plane falling its wings were forward so was obviously not trying to outrun the Turkish jets.

Turkey have dropped the ball with this I feel, but until the audio of the warnings and proof of visual warning have been put up by turkey then I suppose it's too early to judge. Killing 2 men for the sake of 2km and no real threat is completely unjustified in my opinion, and I expect the rest of the NATO countries to come to the same conclusion.

Yup.

I am willing to put this down to Putin wanted to provoke and Turkey looking for an excuse.

Yayladagi is around 3km inside the Turkish border and the width of that space is around 20km..........

20km not 2. So 5 mins sound about right.

Even the radar report already posted doesn't show the jet flying over Yayladagi, it shows it flying over Yamadi, a distance of about 2.5km. This of course is all assuming the radar report is accurate.

Can't see this ending as more than a war of words tbh. Turkey knows they'd get a spanking on their own, Russia doesn't want to be drawn in to WW3.

Lots of stern words will be had, Russia will make threats to appease the population and Turkey gets to say that they've defended their borders.

If it happens again... then I'm going to start stockpiling canned food and twinkies :D

How would turkey get a spanking? They have a massive defence force. Many of which have experience.

I thought that track seems to show that the aircraft had completed the same loop once before, and it is probable it was warned a number of times both during and after that first incursion, then again, before it re-entered.
Doing it twice smacks of deliberate and inflammatory action.

That might be how they got the dozen or so warnings in. They went in then out again.

#Putin: plane was downed over Syria by Turkish F16. It fell in Syria, 4 k x-the border. Our planes didnt threaten Turkish terrority in any way

How would they have time to scramble jets to bring it down if the Russian plane really was there for a few seconds?

that radar plot suggests it was never anywhere near Yayladagi though? Assuming it is the red line, though certainly shows 2 passes.

Even the radar report already posted doesn't show the jet flying over Yayladagi, it shows it flying over Yamadi, a distance of about 2.5km. This of course is all assuming the radar report is accurate.

Indeed, however I'm more inclinded to trust a quote from the Trukish military rather than some random radar plot from source unknown.

Also take note , Turkish airforce violates on a DAILY basis the Greek Airspace, almost every time a dogfight takes place. Hypocrite Turks lol.

We usually just politely escort them out of our airspace? :p

+1 and a hug.

Why do we do this ? It prevents escalation and this is exactly what the Turks should have done.

There has been incursions over UK airspace many times, you only get to know about the dull ones.......
