Our border collie.

We adopted her as a rescue aged 5 about 9 years ago. When we first got her she refused to go outside, would lie down and refuse to move if we went more than 2m away from the house. Would nervous wee if you ever asked her to "get off the sofa", so scared, took about a week before she came over to be stroked, she needed so much cuddling after that.

She is now 14 and still super healthy and bouncy.

We don't know that much of her first 5 years other than she was kept in a small terraced house and only ever saw the small back yard. No real socialisation and certainly no decent exercise. She's turned into the most amazing family dog, helps get the kids up for school, so affectionate, loves being out and about. It's amazing considering where she came from.

Day we brought her home - so scared:

I’m in bits here. Our Frenchie has been rushed to the vets for an emergency operation to fix something called IVDD.

He's been unable to stand on his back legs for a couple of days now, won’t stop panting and started messing himself. I’m just hoping and praying everything goes well. It would kill us as a family to lose him. Can only wait for (hopefully good) news :(

That's awful :(

IVDD is horrible and a back paralysis type thing.

Strict crate rest for 6 weeks is what I had to do with my two mini sausages when they both had it.

I couldn't afford the surgery of £14,000 so plenty of gabapentine was given and I just had to make sure they practically didn't move.

Carried them out to potty etc.

Neither had it as bad as yours though but both fully recovered .

It's very common with sausage dogs unfortunately but I had no idea frenchies could get it too. :(

Hopefully he will get better with lots of rest and painkillers in addition to the surgery.

We’ve lost him, I’m utterly broken.

Surgery wouldn’t have improved his condition and he would forever be in pain, unable to stand and incontinent. No quality of life at all, I think it was much kinder on him to put him to sleep.

So painful. He was only 6. At least it was 6 very happy years. Gonna hurt me for a long time :(

RIP little Louie. See you again someday.

:( Sorry to hear that, lovely looking chap. Like you say if his quality of life is going to suffer its the best decision...so so hard though.

RIP Louie

Oh no! I'm so very sorry to hear that :(

What a gorgeously handsome boy he was too.

My heart goes out to you at such a heartbreaking time.
