Ok, so yeah that's not going to work. I'd be interested to see if that's a common thing and if there is any way to try and avoid the behavior inside
You can get anti cat scratch tape and similar things to make certain areas less appealing.
But your not gonna stop it all together.
Cats scratch, its part of their natural behaviours.
Mine uses his scratching posts along with my sofa and banister. Although it's not too bad, he prefers the scratching posts.

You'd need to provide multiple scratching surfaces and actively encouraging scratching in those areas (cat nip etc)

Going to depend on a cat by cat basis what they do.

My daughter desperately wants a cat, but having just refurbished a house we really dont want it all getting scratched up. Do scratch posts work?
A cat is probably the worst animal to get if you want something to fit in to your lifestyle. With cats, it works the other way round...you have to fit in to theirs!!
You can't tell them off, they just consider you to be inconsistent and grow to be afraid of you. Honestly, if you want something you can control it would probably be better to get her a puppy.
You never really know with a cat. They may prefer the scratching post, they may prefer your settee. It is a gamble.
Any cat will damage furniture just as it is jumping around. They can't help that. If you want to avoid it tearing in to a settee, the best thing is to buy a leather one. They will still damage it, just not as much as they might do with a material one.

Outside your house
Ours got us trained so well that she would stare at me and slowly raise one paw towards the sofa if she wanted something.

Scratching is essential for cats though, not only to keep their claws in check but to help them stretch their muscles out.

Ronnie has had a ear problem for a month or so and nothing has helped it get better so now we have the option of going to another one of our vets branches who have a miniture camera - They put him under -flush the ear out and then put camera down to see what is going on.
It looks like the only option we have .

Had email with a estimate at a cool £1099.00.
Good job we have a emergence fund. Stopped insurance when they wouldn't pay out on our last cat Holly who had same symptoms which turned out to be a tumour.
We won't let Ronnie suffer the pain Holly had.

Oww, poor Ronnie.
Here's hoping everything is fine.
Chin up! The chances of it being the same thing are mercifully slim.

Hope all goes well and its nothing major.

We also put money aside for the animals rather than pay for insurance purely because there is no retractions or conditions that need meeting and it can go on whatever is needed for them.

As its our money its free to go on whatever is needed
