Wont be a waste IMO

im using SLI 780s but i see 1440p and 144hz as the features i want most

g-sync is just the icing on the cake

If you're happy paying for the price hike for technology you won't use then I think its fine. It's still going to be the only 144Hz 2560 1440 monitor out there.

Thanks for the replys, i will order it some time this week.

Do we know if Asus will be releasing a 24" ROG model with an 8 bit panel like this?
You'd think it would sell well for them.

http://rog.asus.com/339252014/gaming-monitors/faq-rog-swift-pg278q-27-inch-g-sync-gaming-monitor/

So it was indeed a bandwidth issue and DP1.2/G-Sync needing to be overclocked to do 2560x1440@144hz. lol I called it back in January:

http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthrea...-PG248Q-ROG-Monitor-Discussion&highlight=vega

So overclocked G-Sync, required larger heat-sink, more air vents in case = 4+ month delay. Maybe they should have put me on their design team. ;)

Panel was reportedly ready to go in January ... consumers got totally screwed here. No doubt ASUS payed a gigantic premium for exclusivity to AUO, but were it not for the delay and **** ups (or G-Synch) at all, we'd probably have seen multiple 2560x1440 @ 144hz monitors by now (at cheaper prices).

Also, 2560x1440 @144 does indeed use more bandwidth than 3840x2160 @ 60. Have they overstepped the VESA DP1.2 spec, hence the reported problems with the AMD card (at higher refresh rates) tested by TFTCentral? If so, is it fixable by an AMD driver update? ASUS don't claim non-compliance, but then neither did AOC with their 4k monitor.

Highly doubt there will ever be any 'ROG' models below 27", and if there are any 8bit TN panels in the reasonably near future, ASUS won't be first.

Do you guys think getting a 780GTX is a good idea now even though we are nearly at the end of this gen cards. Really want to get this monitor but very pointless with my 660GTX.

Any advice are welcomed please!

Gibbo, Would be nice if we could get an update on the date please :)

Any word from Asus?

They're unlikely to say anything or amend the date as it would hurt sales.

ASUS Germany have recently stated that it's looking like second or third week of August for EU.

If you wait a few months, you'd probably save £300 on both. I mean the monitor is already £140 cheaper elsewhere in Europe. Also, if you're intending to get it from the UK and you haven't already ordered it, I doubt you'll get one now before mid-late September.
