Because you have reached the max FSB your board can take you with a quad, p5b's start to get unstable around the 390mhz mark.

400Mhz is awfull, I can push 450 on my P35 DS3R with a dual and I would expect it with a quad too.

No its not, the P5B is an old board, it uses an older P965 chipset. I’m pretty sure not all of them had native support for 1333MHz CPU's. There just not geared up to extract the full oc potential of a quad core.
Why compare you current P35 board to an old P965 board?
Worth noting the P5B Deluxe with the 0505 bios could achieve 500MHz+ FSB with a dual core, they just dont fair as well with quads.

Anyone? Any thoughts?
In my book that is "real world" stable no way your machine will ever load that much over a 16 hour period would be happy with that clock

Just what I thought tbh, but just wanted to make sure.
And no it's my gaming rig so won't be folding or anything like that.

Folding rarely uses 100% cpu occupancy, I struggle to find stuff that can make full use of my Q6600 and all its processing power, rarely breaks a sweat

Out of interest, what are your folding temps compared to your prime95 temps?

I don’t fold anymore, if you knew how much it adds to you electricity bill with these new quads you wouldn’t either

Surely playing a game like supcom would add to your electric bill more than folding?

If you play it 24/7 sure it would, but about 20 hours and 5 days to hardcore for me though

The heatsink doesn't fit? well next time you will use a tape measure first, another lesson under your belt, no pain no gain.
Now get that heatsink RMA'ed and choose yourself another

What settings do you use to overclock a Q6600 on a IP35 (non pro) with 4gig of ram.

Bump the northboard volts up a notch or two and you'll probably be fine (a notch for the higher fsb, and also for the additional ram
)

Anyone have any experience of clocking these chips in an Abit AW9-MAX? I've offered to help a friend out but I've no experience of this board, so any help appreciated

temps seem a bit high for a tuniq tower tryed reseating it but still the same ish temps could a bios update fix it or make it worse ???????
any help or tips would be grateful
just release why my temps could be high
from that image you can see that the fan is blowing aginst the partition of my case and not really going any where except back in to the flow of the fan on my cpu ?????????? could it be this
