Roll/Bun/Cob = Small bead product, usually served in a similar fashion to bread (with ham/cheese).

(all of which can come in standard/crusty variety)

Tea-cake - Usually raisins, usually toasted.

Sub - Long roll, sliced in the middle ala subway style.

Muffin - Pendent on if it's the McDonalds breakfast style muffin, or the blueberry muffin style.

That's how it was for me in the Midlands growing up.

i say cob

and balm makes me think of this barn/balm loaf but that is more like a teacake loaf with currents in you toast and is amazing :confused:

Well technically all the different regions have different types of bread.

For example balm cakes are normally more flat and soft and oven baked, whereas a Cob is normally crunchy and firm.

Also a strange one to add the mix, when I was at uni their was a guy from Norwich who called them a 'batch', anyone ever heard of this term?
