Panting like a fiend
My favourite is, and always has been Marmite.
Preferably thick, and with grilled cheese on the top.

I was really put out when for about a year in 2020 it seemed like every jar of marmite I bought was spreading like it had been in the fridge, my consumption of it dropped through the floor. And yes I know, first world problems, and incredibly minor compared to everything else that was happening that year :)

If I'm having just butter it's M&S Salted Butter from Brittany, the salt crystals are something else. Otherwise it depends on the bread.

Its got to be some old fashioned proper butter, has to be at room temperature before spreading on toast as soon as it comes out of the toaster, so it melts

I dont usually have toast at any other time than breakfast.
Butter and marmite are my favourite followed by crunchy peanut butter.
I occasionally have buttered toast with soup.
The butter, marmite and cheese combination I had never considered before reading this, but must admit I will be trying it soon.
