Upcoming X38 Motherboards

With the launch article, we will have additional details including some impressive power consumption numbers that are now lower than the P35 chipset
Heh, that shouldn't be hard for Asus, their P35 boards consumed about 50w more than Gigabyte and Abit :)

DDR2's still far better price/performance.

Agreed, but consider the context of my statement, for the future DDR3 is the way forward, unless these boards offer a stop gap with DDR2 compatability, like some of the Gigabyte boards GA_35C DS3R

Does anyone know when the DFI UT P35 T3R (DDR3) will be launched? It stated shortly after the T2R..and peeps in the states have had these since August :/

& they (or the Infinity) still aren't available in the UK so why should the T3R be any quicker? :p
Maybe you'll see them here by 2008 ...

Fixed :P

I'd agree... if the GA-X38-DQ6 had have came with DDR2 and DDR3 it would have been a no-brainer, but lack of DDR3 on that board makes it a large expensive upgrade for something that you are going to replace again 6 - 12 months later for a DDR3 board.

Asus Maximus Formula

Now this looks a hell of a lot better than the preview board we seen.

Pretty sure that the block can be used with out watercooling just like on the blitz boards, if thats what your getting at.
So you can use that block on regular air cooling? Wouldn't that make the cooling of the northbridge horrible due to lack of fins and instead only getting 2 cyclinders coming out of it?

Yep you can just use aircooling.

Dont know how much of a difference it makes to the cooling of the NB but when you think about all that copper and the heatpipes I think its pretty decent air cooled any way.

Also its meant to be coming around 29th this month. :)

I have been waiting for this board since my bios screwed up on my blitz formula..

do you think i will be able to fit a crossfire setup with the Thermalright HR-03 cooler attached to both cards and a pci soundcard..

ideally i would also like to had a fan to each card..

Im going to say maybe as im not sure how far the back of the cooler on the top card will go back.

It could cover the PCI slot above the first PCI-E slot and then you will just have to use the onboard.

Finally we are getting some reviews of the X38 boards. I am really thinking about going DDR3 for my new build in late October / early November. DDR3 is just so expensive compared to DDR2. :(

You will only end up buying better DDR3 next year so it would just be money wasted.

Plus there will be better boards out that will get the best out of DDR3.

Eeek !
Just seen DDR3 prices ... twice the price for half the amount.
Better off buying DDR2 for now I think, especially as currently DDR3 isnt significantly faster in most things than DDR2.
