WR250X

Looks nice i think.

That's going to be gash.

The MX version of that bike only makes about 35/40 brake, and that's a seriously high maintenance motor.

In road tune, it'll just be gash... or need regular expensive maintenance.

Yuck. That goes for all Yam's now.

If you want a decent looking 125 you need a Derbi GPR125, if you want a fast one you go for an Aprilia RS125, if you want a 4 stroke, buy a car or a 600 or bigger :D.

I was going to sell my ZX6 and go for a nice shiny new FMX650, until I learned it only had 30bhp.

I seriously hate Yam's, they're cheap looking and are made with sugar paper.

btw the motor in a Derbi GPR125 is a rebadged Yamaha DT motor.
the motor in the FMX650 is out of the old Honda Dominator and the cat takes away 7hp.

Surely you mean "If you want a bit of playschool tat with all the resilience of a damp tissue, buy a Derbi"?

*n

You should see mine then, If it was any other bike it would have blown up and snapped in half long ago and can easily out run an RS125 up to 90mph, and I've crashed it at 50/60 with only a broken brake lever and a gash in the side of the cowl.

Saying that, mine was the 50SM and not the 125GPR

I would go so far as to say it's the best bike I've ever had, including my 636.

CG125 for commuting, Aprilia for tweaking racing & fun. Those Aprilias break 120-130 on the Isle of man. Most will be easily tweaked to 110 & the early ones you only had to lift the seat & unplug 1 wire for a 90mph

I really cant be doing with this nonsense.
Those Race bikes do ONE race per piston.
ONE.
The top end is then totally rebuilt.

Deristricting a RS125 and using all its 33bhp on a regular basis gives your top end a life of about 3k, and thats on absolute top quality oil.
In standard trim you are looking at new pistons every 6k if you use it.

I worked as a bike mechanic for a year when i was 19, and also have friends and work mates who have owned RS's and Mito's, and although i have not personally rebuilt one, we had 3 or 4 through the doors in my time.

Because not all people want a bike that sounds like an angy wasp or has the maintenance overhead of a two stroke.

I know the RS125 is a great bike, but it's not the easiest 125 to live with for anyone doing longer rides/commutes frequently.

Thats very true. I have rode one before and they are very fast bikes, and the handling is very good. But as said above they are not the easiest bike to live with. Especially a person in my situation were the bike is used more for commutes rather than having pure fun.

Nonsence my **** you cheeky git.
You work as a mechanic for a year & have a few mates :p
I was not talking about getting a road bike to 130 it is just a reflection of what is poss. If modded to 90-100 then it would happily sit at 70-80 all day.
If you knew half of what you think you do you would know it takes Minutes to strip a 2 stroke lump down, whacking a new piston barrel & rings is a to clean hand job in an hour. Dropping a lump is minutes & replacing one is just as quick. Like i said in my post Fixing them & maintaining them is what teaches you want you need to know for the future.
Blokes with your attitudes just pay others to do it & talk as if they could do it.

125's are fun, but I would rather have a 4-stroke, especially when you pass your a1 test and are restricted. 2-stroke are just a pain in the rear. Unreliable, smelly, noise, change gear every 1/2 a second.

No it doesnt, its not "a matter of minutes" and IF you get away with "Just a piston" you still have to drain the coolant remove all the body work, petrol tank, airbox, take the head off, take the barrell off, then swap the piston.
If you dont, its £200 for a barrell and piston.

So its an entire morning/afternoon, and £200 just to change it.
Add another £100+ in labour if you dont do it yourself.

Every 3000 miles, not including getting it back if you break down on the road.

They dont "sit at 80" all day, they are incredibly tiring to drive at that speed and dont last if you do.

16 years of bike riding and maintenance behind me.............."mate".
I dont need the tirade about what a man you are in repost, i can probably guess 90% of it.

Not bad at all, if I were in the market for a 125, wouldn't mind owning that.

OT (ish) just followed a L plated step-through home, me on the kwaker, and not once did the lad/girl lifesaver or give any indication, and numerous times were right up the **** end of the car in front

Scort.

Don't judge others by your own Poor standards. It is an Hour to me & i said doing it yourself about 3 times.

Changing a cylinder/piston on a 2 stroke takes a different amount of time depending on the bike, some can be done very quick some require you to take half the bike appart.

typical... I see them all the time round where I live and cos its mainly countryside the cars go faster than the speed limit (no cops to catch you) and they are more likely to get caught out if they don't life save..

RS125 will be 4stroke soon enough. Rumoured to be 2008, but maybe they can hold it off until 2009 (not sure when Euro4 regulations come out?).

Aprilia RS125. The only option.

Identical to my best mates RS, his is still restricted but will see 80mph anyway, he's happy with it as it is and looking to do his test, be brought it brand new (not something id personally do with a 125), and its a very nice bike to ride! A bit light compared to what I was used to before with a bike!
